Here is my experience from Nigeria to Canada vie Virgin Atlantic Airline on the 15th December 2020.

Virgin Atlantic staff refused to board me till they get a clearance letter from there Airline office in Ghana even after showing my wifes Canadian birth certificate and Canadian passport and my kids Canadian passport and our marriage certificate..sadly the clearance came 15mins after my flight departed to UK enroute to Canada.

Had to pay extra $195 to be on the next flight for the next day been 16th December 2020.

Arrived UK on the 16th December 2020 went into london city since my connecting flight(Air Canada) was the next day had 24hrs layover.
Was at the airport next day for my flight to Toronto....Air Canada staff were super nice they requested for my marriage certificate and wife/Kids Canadian birth certificate and passports they gave me my boarding pass I complained about my experience in lagos Nigeria with Virgin Atlantic and they said it was wrong that dont know what they were doing that I should sue them for inconveniencing me.

At Pearson airport the immigration officers asked me how long I was visiting i said 1month they also asked if am living in Canada with family or living in Nigeria I said I live and work in Nigeria they demanded for my marriage certificate and wife and kids Canadian passports and birth certificate which I presented to them they asked for my ARRIVE CAN number which I showed then he stamped 6months duration on my passport and said merry Christmas and welcome to Canada.
Hope this helps....my advice download and fill the Arrive Can application on your phone submit and get the submission code.

Have your documents printed out if you are an immediate family to a Canadian citizen e.g marriage certificate, your spouse Canadian passport or birth certificate.

They did not and Virgin Atlantic Air line said covid test not needed if you are travelling from Nigeria....our covid rate here is extremely very low out of 200 million people only about 65,000 is positive and the death rate is less than 2000...I can say to an extent that COVID is not in Nigeria I stand to be CORRECTED though....I was not also asked about quarantine plans when I landed in Toronto though maybe from my house address they can see is a privately owned house with basement and 3 extra floors and just me and my wife and 4 kids [immediate family] lives there.

Only slightly concerning because they definitely didn't look up your property on google maps. I have heard that others have been asked about their quarantine plans. So disappointing to see that after a year they still haven't got a good system for checking to see if people have appropriate quarantine plans. The follow-up system isn't great either. The Canada covid response is really up to every person to educate themselves and research appropriate protocols. Poor communication and the inability to be firm and explain consequences is why most provinces are having such high rates of covid. We should be following the Maritimes where they have been more direct and do more and better targeted testing. The next few months are going to be very bad. Would also add that not allowing people to gather within many Canadian regions but allowing family members to fly in to visit makes absolutely no sense. People justifying that sitting on the beach in Florida creates no extra risk versus staying at home in Canada for the holidays is ridiculous. People are still having birthday parties and at least one became a super spreader event. Apologize for hijacking your thread but I have essentially been in isolation for almost a year and this is like watching a car accident in slow motion. They really need to show how bad the hospitals are and how much covid attacks our body. Maybe showing people who have lost a limb, those who need dialysis, who need a walker in their 30s/40s, etc. would convince people to really buckle down so businesses can open up before going bankrupt and we may not need to spend the winter stuck in the house. Perhaps then people would take covid more seriously.

I dont think you are absolutely right....before visa was issued I was asked to come up with my quarantine plan for 14 days and address where I intend to observe it which I did....upon landing in Toronto he looked up at my address and said there will be follow up with emails and phone calls which they did the next day and other subsequent days where I do my daily quarantine report thru ARRIVE CAN application as soon as I arrived I received a notification,my wife was also called by the CBSA confirming that am at home and having my quarantine in our basement.
The pandemic is a global situation and sadly some countries are having a higher rates than others and unfortunately Canada appears to be more hit with the pandemic than Nigeria but that does not mean people are not taking precautions and a guide against been infected but the truth remains the virus has come to stay and will not be completely gone for a very long time to come so people must get used to it and plan living there lifes and daily existence around it you dont expect the Canada to stop functioning or people and family members to stop visiting there loved ones because of COVID 19 to me that doesn't make sense and can never stand.

Also doesn't make sense to make people stay home and close business yet let people arrive from abroad sometime affected by covid unless there is a compassionate reason. There have been increasing numbers of people arriving with covid. Many would not qualify provincial healthcare. You may have quarantined properly but many aren't. Many don't have the space to quarantine properly and don't rent a hotel or airbnb.

Edit: Just watched the premier go on a rant complaining about this exact thing.

I understand your concern, but try living without parents for 11 years. Knowing they are super alone there and we can not leave our jobs to see them. Its both ways. They must be sitting in home there but they are alone. They will be sitting here in home BUT WITH THEIR CHILDREN.

Still doesn't make sense. Like everyone else delaying seeing family until covid is more in control worldwide is a sacrifice for the greater good of Canada. With covid cases surging nobody should be travelling because that's how covid spreads. That also means Canadians shouldn't be travelling elsewhere as well. If a FN gets sick most will not have enough medical insurance to cover their care and place even more strain on the health system. An ICU stay is around 20K/day. Would add than many are not quarantining or quarantining properly. I don't make the rules but like premier Ford I am very frustrated to see the amount of people entering Canada. When the federal government explains that people are only arriving in Canada for essential reasons that's actually not correct. Lots of extended family and people returning from a vacation. Just a reminder that your parents can't quarantine with you they must remain separated from you in something like a basement or an airbnb.

Regardless on how long individuals have been away from their parents etc, the safety & well being of Canadians is paramount , before allowing individuals from other countries into the country during a pandemic. Entering Canada, for individuals who do not have charter rights to enter is a privilege, not a right .Once again a PRIVILEGE. Even more so now that the virus has mutated and even more contagious, and the healthcare system is teetering on collapse .
