Hello, my PGWP expires next month December 13th. I have a full time job now and I will finish my one year experience on February so I can't apply for PR or BOWP now. My wife started studying from outside Canada since she received the first stage approval, so I am waiting for her to get the study permit so I can apply for spousal open work permit. In the meantime, can I apply for an extension to my work permit while I know they will reject my application? I just want to buy some more extra time until my wife comes to Canada or until I finish my one year experience. Does anyone did that before? Any advice please would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes I know that I can't extend PGWP, I know that the extension will be rejected. But my question is Could I apply just to be as an Implied status until they make a decision so by that I can get some more extra time?

You can change your status to visitor and be on implied statu. You can’t work.

I did the same and stopped working. Now waiting for decision.

It's better to stop working but you can get your one year work experience.

Others can comment but given a PGWP cannot be extended then any time beyond the expiry date of your PGWP should you not be on any other work implied status may well end up being discarded given in reality not allowed to work beyond the PGWP expiry date as you would have been out of work status and should have moved to visitor status.

Ultimately upto IRCC whether they do anything not this forum but others on here have tried this knowing full well PGWPs cannot be extended unless due for example issued short due to passport expiry so any extension request would be rejected.

If it works for you then fine but be prepared for the worst case, good luck
