Hi guys,

What NOC do you think that best fits the title: post-secondary student recruiter?

I try 1123 but it's not well-fit at all. Please advise. Thank you very much!!

Actually my friend and I, we both remember the title “post-secondary student recruiter” was mentioned in the CIC NOC 1123 descripton before, but now it’s gone. I can find some other source that still include this title:
https://www.workbc.ca/careers/1123

https://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getAllExample&TVD=314243&CVD=314247&CPV=1123&CST=01012016&CLV=4&MLV=4&V=290774&VST=01012016

Do you think those links can be used?
The NOC 1123 description still mentions student recruiter as an example. Look under "Index of Titles", one of the examples is Student recruiter - post-secondary education:

https://noc.esdc.gc.ca/Structure/NocProfile/d1aff64a08104868a1adb3f22d01e8be?objectid=vnXjPp9WeVtIDAqHxJvf7X7E12lq1YHl8NKaOJ3JBcIyMxrUkpdvc/69CPMnrfFU

I am also a post-secondary student recruiter and this is the NOC I used for my application. I cannot find another that better matches what I do. It's not just for advertising, it also refers to marketing and public relations and roles that help promote/market/increase awareness of a product (in this instance, this could be a degree or a university).

I don't think any NOC matches a job with 100% accuracy (because they tend to be so wide), but in my opinion this fits this particular type of job.

Ohhhh that’s why, I didn’t realize the ‘index of titles’ button. Thank you very much!!

I agree with you that no NOC can fit 100%, but the description of 1123 itself confuses me (it goes quite deeply into marketing/PR with regular target audience, while we mainly work with student). That’s why I have to find the job title “post-secondary student recruiter” to rest assured :)

You are very welcome. I agree it's a bit confusing, I spent sooo much time comparing my employment letter with the NOC description (I still do that when I get anxious :). However, I have not found a better NOC for this type of role.

When you say you mainly work with students, do you travel (nationally or internationally), take part in education events/school visits etc. in order to promote your institution? Do you focus on certain countries/regions? Do you look at ways you could attract more students? If yes, then that's PR. It may not seem like it when you do it, but it is :) The idea is that you create strategies to promote your institution and/or try to raise awareness among students of your degrees/programmes.

That's how I see it anyway :) The students are your target audience.

Yes, FSW Outland :) Applied on 23 August, it was quick. Was prepared to wait a lot longer. Any other questions, feel free to ask, I'll still be on the forum trying to help.

Hi Jo, hope you are doing well.
I am now looking into the documents to prepare my application. Is it possible for you to share me the experience writing your employment verification letter?

I am thinking about showing my supervisor the 1123 NOC page, but I am afraid the way they describe the main duties will confuse her. Other than that, do I need to explain the nature of the job? (like I work as an external employer from out of the country, and I don’t need to be at the work place physically, etc).

Any other thing that I should pay attention to? Please advise me.

Thank you very much

Hi Hannah, good to hear from you :) So what I did was I emailed my previous manager (I used a previous job, not my current job) and explained what I needed with bullet points. So - dates of employment, salary, job title...I also provided answers for these, in case he did not want to spend time looking through records (but of course I said he could always verify the information to make sure it's correct).

Then I did my best to explain the concept of the NOC a bit and how my job is considered to be part of a much wider professional area, including public relations and marketing and how IRCC expects to see certain duties listed in the employment letter. I then emailed him a link to the 1123 NOC duties and outlined the wording that was most suitable for my role. He sent me the draft letter before finalizing it to make sure I was happy with everything.

He pretty much wrote a very "to the point" employment letter, listing all the IRCC requirements and adding a sentence at the end to say they can contact him if they require further information.

I'm not sure what to advise regarding the nature of the job, as this was not my case. Basically, I just stuck to exactly what IRCC required. This page gives you the exact requirements for the employment letter:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/permanent-residence/express-entry/applications-received-on-after-january-1-2016-completeness-check.html#s03

Hope this helps? If you are comfortable with giving me your email address (in a private conversation, not necessarily on the forum), I would love to keep in touch, especially since you are working in the same field as me and it's really rare to come across someone else in this area of work :)

Best of luck with your application!
