Application statuses other than Biometric

So I applied for a student visa along with my wife from India in SDS category. We got a biometric request the next day.

I know the VACs not open as of now so our biometric will happen when they open.

I want to know - until then what are the updates that happen in your application? Do they proceed or wait for biometrics for everything to process?

If you submitted your application after sept 15 it will be processed normally....means they will need your biometrics.

Yes, I got that. I am asking are there other things they work on until the biometric is done.
