Can I visit and stay in my home country after I submit all my spouse sponsorship documents from Canada?

The CIC website as well as the IRCC helpline representative told me that I cannot sponsor someone if I'm a permanent resident living outside Canada. However, here is my situation.

I am recently married and do not want to stay away from my wife for as long as it takes for my wife to come and meet me in Canada. I want to apply with all the necessary documents for the spousal sponsorship and then go back home be with my wife and wait for her to get a response.

Will this violate any laws? Because I am NOT SPONSORING my wife from outside Canada technically since I'll be submitting the documents while I'm in Canada. Any input would be highly appreciated. I have no reason to stay in Canada alone since everything is online now because of Covid.

The IRCC helpline is correct.

As a permanent resident, you must be living in Canada in order to qualify to sponsor your spouse. So the answer to your question is unfortunately no, you cannot move back to your home country while the application is being processed. Short trips back to your home country once in a while are fine (e.g. three weeks). However you can't leave for months. If you do so, you should expect your application will be canceled.
