I am looking for recommendations for doing a course/study online or classroom, I am a permanent resident, have a year-old kid and husband living in Montreal, Quebec. My primary concern is to work from home if possible and want to do a better job.

My educational qualifications are:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Master’s in Arts
And have experience as a primary school teacher for 3 years from India, Customer Service 1 year Canadian.

I am really lost in what to do in future. I did shortlist few courses that can be done online like Early Childhood, Payroll & Tax Preparation and Immigration Consultant. My questions are:

  • Which course is more relevant to my profile? you might have seen anyone with that profile. Also, where should I do the course? I researched Tax Preparation courses and fee vary like anything and I am not sure what courses are more authentic, useful.
  • Do we have any career counsellor services, probably by Govt.?
  • Is there any course where I can get more benefit being PR holder? I know colleges usually have 3x fee for international students.
  • Which businesses are easier to start? I was looking into Amazon Seller as well and did some research. Do you recommend any mentor who can guide/help through legalities, Startup documentation etc.
  • Do we have any courses where govt pays you something? I know a friend of friend who did a business course and told me he will get like $5000 from Quebec Govt just to pass that course. I am not sure how true is this statement.
Any kind of help or suggestions regarding course selection would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you want to set up a home daycare? Then ECE would be a good option. Some people things like bookeeping and basic tax preparing from home. Tax preparing will mean you have a few very busy months where you will have to put in long hours and not consistent work. Being an amazon seller is very competitive these days and will require a lot of research upfront and you'll need to take a chance on a certain product. It will also require upfront investment. There is quite a lot of info online but most classes are privately given and not associated with any school. Many offer mentorship. You will have to look into whether Quebec supports retraining courses. I know that they pay for French language classes in certain cases. What jobs and courses you should do will come down to personal preference and knowing what may fit into your lifestyle based on your other commitments. You qualify for domestic fees as a PR.
