Any idea whether do we get PPR request for Visa stamping (for new work permit extension) or do we have to file for TRV application post WP approval?
In my case, I had applied for WP extension which got approved recently and my original work permit & VISA are already expired few weeks ago.

TRV needs a separate application. You can apply it even before your work permit got approved or your WP delivered to you. Thankfully, it takes just 40 days these days.

HI, Thank you for correct info though I want to know difference between work visa and visitor visa. Since I've got W-1 visa (work visa) for 2 years with my initial work permit, do I have to apply for TRV (as visitor visa or work visa) or its just a category which is used and decided by IRCC. TIA

My work permit has been approved today including my spouse open work permit.
Application submitted on May 1st
Eligibility has been reviewed on Oct 1st.
Work permit was approved on Oct 2nd.

Okay few things :
1. There isn't any called "Work Visa". What is there are a Work Permit and a Temporary Resident Visa.

1.a Work Permit is the authorization which allows you to work AND also is the basis of a Temporary Resident Status which allows you to live in Canada temporarily.
1.b Temporary Resident Visa allows you to travel to Canada ie to board a flight to Canada, to present yourself at a Canadian airport etc and ask permission to stay in Canada. Thats all! This visa while is important in getting a Temporary Resident Status, DOES NOT allow you to live in Canada. It only allows you to travel to Canada.

So now what do you see on your passport? That thing is called a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) and it mentions your category as "Worker" or "W-1". It means you are allowed to travel to Canada for an intention of being a Worker here. The border checking people will then decide to allow you in AND grant you a Temporary Resident Status as a Worker (Which is roughly what a work permit is). If you already have a Work Permit which is not expired, it means you also have a Temporary Resident Status in Canada.

Now coming to Visitor Visa. This is again a Temporary Resident Visa. It allows you to travel to Canada and (possibly) gain status as a Visitor for a time period decided by border official folks. Default is six months.

TL;DR :
Work Visa = Doest not Exist possibly you mean Temp. Resident Visa (Worker, W-1)

Work Permit = Live and Work in Canada

Temp. Resident Visa = Board flight to Canada or Travel to Canada. (Thats why it is pasted on your passport!)

Temp. Resident Visa (Worker, W-1) = Board flight to Canada or Travel to Canada AND ask for an initial work permit at the port / border OR present your existing status supported by your authorization ie your work permit and ask permission to enter canada as a worker. Interestingly, IRCC sometimes also calls this as Visitor Visa for Students or Workers.

Temp. Resident Visa (Visitor) aka Visitor Visa = Board flight to Canada or Travel to Canada AND ask for permission to live in Canada as a visitor for possibly upto six months.

Note : You can keep on living in Canada on an expired TRV So long you have a valid work permit and a valid temporary status in Canada. The moment you leave canada (say a short visit to europe), you need your TRV to travel back to Canada. You may not be allowed to board flight to Canada if you are missing TRV or expired TRV.

I don't know. I never did that. Closest I know is Flagpoling but it works only on land border.

It feels a bit misleading or misrepresentating though. You are having a visa which tells your intentions as a visitor BUT at the same time you are carrying documents which are clear indication that you want to work.... Sounds weird. May be one should first get a Visitor status, spend some time and THEN apply for work permit...

Please consult a proper lawyer though. It is slightly in complicated territory.

I am inland candidate..I have applied for closed work permit extension..and it is through Letter of support which came along with nomination...any body knows how much work permit i would get..e.g 1 year or 2 years

not sure if related, but I had sent an ATIP request a week earlier.

So you old work permit expired already or will expire in coming feb?

If it is going to expire in Feb, then I believe you will get you WP before that.
If it is already expired then you are on implied status (i presume).

Its already expired last month and now i am in implied status.
Want to apply for a new job. But they need workpermit first. The place where i am living, they even do not the meaning of implied status.
If will not get in few days then again no good job for next 3 months.
