So I sent in my family application (two adults) on September 11th, which arrived September 15th.

A few days after applying I realized that we did not print our names on the back of our passport photos. I posted about it here in the forum and after a couple of days seemed to see most responses suggesting I submit a second application with a letter of explanation and with everything done correctly.

While collecting documents for the application, I discovered that somehow when we made a the payment for our citizenship applications, the payment was tied to an account made with my wife's email. It's unclear because of the way her username/password are stored, but it looks like this is one of two IRCC accounts my wife has.

Wanting to investigate further, I just tried to lookup my application status -- since I know it was received on the 15th of September. Trying with both my UCI/information and my wife's UCI/information when we search for the citizenship application, nothing turns up.

I tried calling IRCC to get their advice but after 8 minutes of hearing recorded menus, I was informed they "could not connect me with an agent" and urged me to use the website.

When I tried to manually link my IRCC account to the application, I can't even get past the section where it asks what kind of application I'm trying to link, as I select Citizen >> and then the next drop-down for sub-type options lists "Search of Citizenship" and "Proof of Citizenship" -- it does not have the option of anything else, including "Citizenship Grant".

What the hell do I do? My old application will likely be rejected because of the passport photos and in any event, it appears that application isn't linked to any of our IRCC accounts - and I can't manually link it. How can I send the new passport photos in a way that will be least likely to lead to delays? Please, can anyone offer advise since I can't seem to get it from IRCC (as they aren't even answering calls now)?

Your online status shows up only once you receive an AOR (Acknowledgement Of Receipt).

the sept 15 date you mention is of the delivery of your paperwork. Once the agents open the file and upload it to the system, you will receive an AOR and can see the status online etc

That's helpful and seems like it solves half of the problem, anyway -- do you have any suggestions as to how to best handle the fact that we didn't print the names on the back of our photos?

Do we wait for a rejection? Go ahead send (right now) just the photos and a letter of explanation? Go ahead and send (right now) an entire new set of application/documents (including the new photos) and a letter of explanation?

You should just send new photos with a letter of explanation so when they receive it, they will just attach to your application making it complete. Resending a new application would just set you back and add to the confusion of having submitted 2 applications.

Waiting for them to ask new photos will again just delay the application.

1. You can check the status online only after receiving AOR.
2. Linking your CIC account with the citizenship grant applications is not possible.
3. Failing to write names on the back of photos most probably triggers the return of applications. However, some of the single applicants have reported that they received their AORs even if they failed to write their names. But as I said, this is mostly with the single applicants.

If you just send photos with a letter, IRCC cannot tag those with your application as you have not been issued file number and it will be useless.

If you are concerned about rejection and don't want to wait, you can send a new application with everything and write a letter explaining the reason.

But I don't think that IRCC will reject your application just because your name is not on pictures.

Did you attach photos to each application or you just put then in 1 envelope ?

In my opinion, this will not work. If they return the application what will they do with only photos?

If you are sending a new application then everything should be sent again.

Thanks for all of your input. I've put together an entire new application package, starting with a letter of explanation, which I'm off to mail right now.
