Yes you can apply for visitor record as long as you apply for it by the time your status expires to my knowledge. Another option to look into would possibly be to to apply for a closed work premit if your able or already have a job offer that would fall under the criteria. Because of recent events i belive you would not have to flag pole for said permit at this time however i may be mistaken.

To maintain a legal status you should apply through the extend stay as a visitor process at least 30 days before your PGWP expires. You would be on an implied status pending the extension being approved

You don't need to apply 30 days before since you will also have to stop working. I would leave yourself at least 2 days before your permit expires in case you run into àny problems.
