Hi All - Question regarding the residency calculator: After becoming a PR, I was living in the US (for employment) for 2 years. I have mentioned this time period on my residency calculator as time away from Canada. While in the US, I also travelled to India a couple of times. Do these trips to India also have to be mentioned on the calculator? These trips are a subset of the 2 years (which is already counted as time away in the US). Please advise.

Thanks @primaprime ! So those days won't be counted as being away two times on the calculator...right? (Since I have already mentioned the two years on the calculator).

No, one day outside Canada is one day outside Canada, regardless of what country you were in.

On your travel diary you should have it look something like this:

15 Jul 2018 - 23 Nov 2018: USA
23 Nov 2018 - 10 Dec 2018: India
10 Dec 2018 - 9 May 2019: USA
9 May 2019 - 12 Jun 2019: India
12 Jun 2019 - 29 Aug 2019: USA

Sorry but @primaprime gets this wrong . . . unless you came back to Canada THEN traveled to India.

Read the instructions. They clearly state how to fill in the information. The only travel history dates listed in the presence calculation are the dates of exit from Canada and the next date of entry into Canada.

One country is listed in the "destination" box. If the applicant traveled to additional countries during that period of time abroad, that is between the date of exit from Canada and the next date of entry into Canada, those countries need to be listed (dates not necessary) in the "Reason for absence" box. Again, all this is clearly spelled out in the instructions.

Remember: if in doubt, follow the instructions; otherwise, yep, follow the instructions.

Yes, my mistake if we're talking purely about the calculator and not a full travel history. But they definitely need to list any foreign addresses in sequence on that portion of the form, unless the trips to India were just visits and not periods of residence, work, etc.

There is 400 character limit, so it is not enough to give all the details. You can mention it briefly in the box, then attach a separate piece of paper with detailed info.
