Hello everyone
I'm aiming to study PhD and get Canadian passport, I contacted immigration offices in my country and they all told me if I will go through study permit pathway to get permanent residence I will spend more time and years to get PR and then getting citizenship. Therefore, I decided first to get The PR visa through Express Entry as skilled worker because I have 6 years job experience, Then After getting the PR visa I can apply for PhD study. I need to know which option is better to get university admission, is it better to be as international student or a PR resident? what is the best route to get PhD opportunity?
Thanks

Your residency status probably doesn't matter for PhD application. It all depends on your academic performance.

It doesn't really matter.

It will certainly be cheaper if you get PR first. How many points do you have under Express Entry? This will determine your chances of getting PR through this immigration stream now.

I thought PhDs are mostly funded by the department/advisor. Money shouldn't be too much of a concern? I am assuming STEM PhD

Depends on the field of study.

Thanks for valuable information, do you know if scholarships funding is the same for permanent resident and international student? I know that university fees differs between both but is funding also different? thanks

Generally there are more scholarships for domestic students.
