I constantly keep seeing many people asking how to order gcms notes; although it's been answered hundreds of times on this forum. This is courtesy of Kinza_Bee and many other contributors on how to order GCMS NOTES!

How to apply GCMS / ATIP notes.
Only a person who is in Canada can request the notes. Get your sponsor to request on PA'S behalf!

If principal applicant is in Canada, he/she can request for himself and apply for free under Privacy Act.

If sponsor is requesting it on behalf of Principal applicant, you need consent form from PA and $5 fee. You can receive consent form from spouse via email and upload it. Apply under Access to Information Act.

It takes about 30 days to receive by email. It is a ~30 pages document (can be more than 30 pages)

Consent form:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/form-imm5744.asp

Section A - Principal Applicant details
Section B - Sponsor's details
Section C - Sponsor's details

GCMS Notes:

In above link, click Apply online, choose English , hit Next and accept the terms & conditions.

Hi!
Thanks for such detailed information.
I just need one clerification;
I have an acquaintance in Canada. He don't know about process of applying for gcms, neither he has time to learn the process. If I put his data in the requester's field, and apply by myself pretending to be him, and then Pay $5 fee through my Pakistani Master debit card. Is it OK, to do that.
Please let me know asap.
Thanks in advance.

Legally speaking no. But it seems unlikely that they would figure it out, since the only person that has to sign the consent form is you.
If you haven't already thought of this, you might want to put his e-mail address and just tell your acquaintance to forward the GCMS notes to you when they arrive... because if you put your e-mail as the "designated representative's information" for correspondence, it'd be pretty obvious that you're just pretending to be him.

Hello Seniors,

I have submitted from GCMS notes under privacy act on 20-Aug-2020. They assigned a temporary tracking number and it mentioned "After your request has been registered, a new number will be assigned to your request".

But after that, I haven't got any new tracking number or my GCMS notes.

Is that normal? I know it takes 30days to get the notes. But what about new tracking number? Do we get to know about it?

This is normal, unless IRCC has questions or needs clarification you will only hear from them when you receive your file. A new tracking number will not be issued in the meantime. The new tracking number will be in the email subject and file name when you receive the Gcms Notes.

Hey dear.
I also applied for notes on 2 Sept and recieved same email mentioning about temporary tracking number. So far, I didn't get any further email. So, it means it's just normal.

I forgot to attach PR card while submitting my GCMS request ,what can i do now ?
When submitting the GCMS request (as well as CBSA and CSIS requests) for my husband's application, I forgot to attach proof of my Canadian citizenship, and they still completed my GCMS request (and the other 2).

If you really need to though, you can e-mail them at ATIP-AIPRP@cic.gc.ca about your original request - just quote the temporary tracking number they gave you, attach your proof to the e-mail, and include a brief explanation in your e-mail. I contacted them before my GCMS request was completed, and they replied to my e-mail within 3 days (GCMS notes came a couple weeks later).

Hope that helps!

It may be too soon to request the Gcms Notes, wait at least until you hear back about your web form. As for the address when using ATIP the new address will not cause any issue.
