Hi there! My partner was just called in to have his medical examination as we are undergoing our common-law sponsorship. I was wondering if this is a good sign/if it means that the rest of our application has been approved?

What stages have you completed so far? My understanding is this can happen either just after the sponsor is approved or sometimes a lot later via the local visa office. Either way, it at least means things are moving forward.

We submitted our application last December and since then have heard nothing. Just yesterday we received the notice for medical exam and today he had it done! Was wondering if this is given to every single applicant or just those who’s file has been mostly approved?

I completed mine (I’m the PA) shortly after sponsorship approval and it was received and passed a couple of days later. Unfortunately that was back in March and I haven’t received any further updates, I’m waiting on hearing when our application is forwarded to a local VO.
Given this is the first update you’ve had, I’d assume your app is at a similar point to ours and thus you still have background, criminality and security checks to go, although I would assume the sponsor has been vetted to be eligible to sponsor. Have you had an update on that or submitted biometrics yet?

Thank you! He just completed medical! What does background, security and criminality check really consist of? Does this mean that the sponsorship portion (the common law status) has been approved?

From what I understand it’ll involve confirming the background history provided is accurate and liaising with intelligence agencies to ensure any criminality has been disclosed and they aren’t listed on Interpol, terrorism etc. Lists. There are some good threads on this forum that provide better and more detailed information if you wanted to find out more.
I would assume that eligibility to sponsor has been approved, I’m pretty confident they never send a medical request prior to this however this just means that the criteria to sponsor has been met and NOT that your relationship has satisfied an officer it meets the requirements for common law; this stage happens once it’s forwarded to a local VO, afaik.
Have you checked via ECAS to see if sponsor is approved?
If not you can check it here!

Hi everyone I did my medical exam. I have applied under spousal sponsorship as my husband is PR. My clinic gave me a form to upload in my file. I am not sure where to upload it. I called cic and they are also not sure. My application is inland application.

yes! We are being asked to provide some more documentation and are getting a letter from a lawyer.
Hi there, hope you got a good news.
In December my husband did his Med Exm but since then there is no news!
called IRCC but the Automatic voice says your background check hasn’t been started yet.
it’s been 5 month since he submitted his Medical.
This waiting is been too frustrating.
do you have any recommendations for me ?
Thank you

Medical exam means your application was accepted (meaning no missing documents/signatures) and they are moving forward with the application. Nothing is 100% yet and it just begun. But if you don't have any criminal record/past sponsorship still active and such, you have nothing to worry about. Just be patient.

My wife took the medical test for Canadian immigration Spousal PR on March 17, 2022, and submitted the medical acknowledgement along with the PR application. We received an IMM1017.pdf on July,06,2022 from IRCC asking for Immigration Medical Examination.

Can we ask the hospital to reupload the medical report we took on March 17 (three and a half months back) along with the IMM1017 form? Will IRCC accept the same or should we go for re-medicals? Please advise.
