Information on In-Canada Paper based TRP application

Hello Guys,

Does anyone know how long does it take to process paper based Temporary Resident Permit along with open work permit (NOT TRV). Usually TRP is applied at Port of Entry but my situation was quite different and I was already inside canada before I applied and was under visitor status.

I had applied for a TRP via paper based application on April 4 and till now I have not received any confirmation or acknowledgement letter from cic that they have received my application.

I had submitted multiple webform request regarding the progress of my application and they always send me a generic email attached below.
Can you please provide insight on my situation.

TRP processing times seem to vary widely. I would say that normally (i.e. without COVID-19) anything from 1 to 6 months was pretty normal. I'm sure it's taking longer right now. Based on the response you received, it sounds like they haven't opened / started processing your application yet. So likely still a while to wait before you hear anything. Good luck.

Yes, I applied for TRP & an OWP (requested for 2yrs) but they issued me for 3yrs. But I guess I’ve to mention that I’d couple of very strong support letters from Canadians. One of them is like a fam/mum to me, &there family had no history of immigration at least for couple of generations. Just mentioning cuz idk if that would’ve had a major impact on the officer opinion. TRPs are purely discretionary and officer will issue it to you if they feel satisfied cuz there’s no actual eligibility criteria around issuing TRPs. A TRP application must show a compelling reason or need to stay in Canada, if applicable/possible add a touch of humanitarianism. This might instill a sort of sympathy for you.

Ps. the officer who had my file also called me a week before she made the decision. The call lasted for around 7mins and the officer’s questions were around her curiosity to know why I applied for TRP

No worries at all! Having recently gone through this painful journey, I know how hard it is! I almost called them every week asking for any updates since TRP applications could only be paper based and application number for TRP starting from D can’t even be linked online. I would suggest be proactive with your file if you’ve to add additional documents through webform to give update on change in any conditions or ur circumstances. Hope it works out for you, wishing you all the best!!

Sure I will message them, I just have one more question for you @imb5. So you applied for TRP on Jan and did you get any acknowledgement letter from CIC that they received your application. When did they first contact you after you submitted the application not your final outcome. thanks sid

No they didn’t! Let’s say if I sent my application on Friday, the courier was received by IRCC on Monday. By next week, on Tuesday, they’d started working on it. But I’d to call them and got application numbers from them.

There’s only one number to reach out to IRCC as far as I know i.e. 1-888-242-2100

hello,

thank you for all your help. I called cic and they said they received my application on April 10 and also provided me with the application numbers. hope i get my decision soon.
