Hi,

I am filing for my dependent child PR and filling IMM1344. My wife is also on PR and currently in Canada. My wife is currently not working, Should I add her as co-signer in the Application to Sponsor in IMM1344?

PS: My wife came to Canada as my dependent and become permanent resident. Not sure if she is eligible to be a co-signer?
Also, if she cannot be a co-signer then, as per checklist I need to fill IMM 5604

You don’t actually need a co-signer. As long as you are both compliant with your RO you can include both your names or just your name.

Two questions:

If I add her as a co -signer (She is complaint with RO) - Since she is not working, Does that make any difference? Also do I need to show her account details? She never filed a tax return(She was staying for very less time in Canada and was in India most of time working full time) , but will be filling this time.

If I don't add her - Then as per checklist - I need to fill IMM 5604 (Non accompanying parents) - But She is here in Canada.

So I am confused on this.

Again, you do not need a co-signer for sponsoring your child.
Co-signer is for other path of sponsorship (e.g. PGP)

In the checklist it mentioned under point 6:

6. Declaration from Non-Accompanying Parent......
If other parent of the principal applicant is not listed as the co-signed non the IMM 1344, provide following:
Complete IMM 5604

So I need to provide IMM 5604? Since my wife is already a PR holder and in Canada, I am not sure if this is valid in my case or not.

As My child is under 18 and I am not adding my wife as co-signer?

You aren’t separated from your spouse and intend to be living together. No need for the form.

She must file taxes. She is a resident for tax purposes. She'll need to declare her Indian income and look into any tax treaties.
