You have not understood my question sir, my current course is media fundamental and is 8 month long and 36 credit hour. Will i still be eligible for work permit? I can't change the course and i am accepted.
If your program was less than 8 months
You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.

For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

If your program was 2 years or more
We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

If you completed more than 1 program
You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed must be

  • PGWP-eligible and
  • at least 8 months in length
You can’t get a PGWP if you already had one after completing an earlier program of study.

Hope this is not too late, but if you happened to do more than 50 percent of your course in your home country, out of the normal duration of then you won't be eligible for PGWP. So after you complete your first semester remotely, you can maybe ask for a break or something. So when you're able to Travel to Canada you can do the remainder of the course and be eligible for PGWP.

Hi guys,

I'm preparing the documentation needed for applying student permit. I have acceptance from a university in Canada for Winter 2021 session. Just wanted how much fund do I need to show in case I have been given financial assistance.

My overall tuition+administration+student union+medical/dental insurance -s CA$ 12,945.

Awarded financial support/funding - CA$ 17,000 per year by the department.

Note: My letter of acceptance states this amount is guaranteed for first year and normally renewable for second year as well (my course is a two years masters) as long as I maintain eligibility of the program.

I know that applicant need can show GIC of CA$ 10,000 covering living expenses for the first year.

My queries are:

- How much funds do I have to show considering the financial assistance given by the university?

- Do I have to purchase GIC of CA$10,000 twice because the proposed course of studies is 2 years?

- Do I have to just show tuition fee and not the other fees (administration/medical/dental insurance fee)?

Thank you very much for your help in this case.

Besides, the department conditional guaranteed fund, you have to show additional financial proof to cover at least a year tuition ( $12945 CAD) and $10000 CAD for living expenses ( GIC).

All the best

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for your response mate.

So you're saying the the funding would be conditional and cannot be considered as a proof? Below is the exact clause mentioned in the offer letter.

You have been awarded financial support in the amount of $17,000 per annum. Depending on the nature of your program and provided that you maintain your eligibility, this amount is guaranteed for one year and normally renewable for a second year for two- year master’s programs and three additional years for doctoral programs.

Eligibility period

The following are funding eligibility periods for XXXXXX graduate students maintaining full-time status and academic standing:
  • Master’s programs: two years
  • PhD programs: four years

So there is one point against proof of funds documents on IRCCs websites which states the following -

proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program

Can my guaranteed funding amount above not be considered against this clause mentioned on IRCC website?

Also you mentioned besides, the department funding,I have to show additional financial proof to cover at least a year tuition, the tuition fee $12945 CAD mentioned above is for 2 years/entire duration of the program. And you also mentioned at least a years tuition, does that mean I need to only consider the tuition fee and not the administration+student union+medical/dental insurance fees?

Can you please clarify your points based on my response please?

To clarify my initial comments , l will like to state clearly that you need to show sufficient proof of funds for at least a year cost of studies ( tuition + other fees) and living expenses. In your case, you can show $10000 (GIC ) for a year living expenses.

Using department support fund usually comprises Teaching Assistantship and or research Assistantship job position as a condition, if yours do not have any of the above stated conditions , you can use it as a proof of funding.

However, l will highly recommend you to show a bank statement with balance which can cover at least cover a year cost of studies plus your GIC.

NB: A friend applied with Department Support Funding of 36k . He was refused base on insufficient funds to cover during of his studies.

I refer you to his case which is similar to yours but his condition of funding was subject to Teaching Assistantship position.

Hope l have answered you well, if not , revert for further clarifications.

Good luck,

Cheers!

Thanks mate that was quite informative. My offer does not state any other condition apart from: maintaining full-time status and academic standing

And this is for sure not a TA or RA as my plan of study form shared has Assistant ship section empty.

Also are they not interest in the expenses for the second year?

It's not required to show proof of fund for your second year expenses, however, if you have enough funds in your statement that can cover your second year of studies expenses , it will great( It's not mandatory)
In yours case , you have $17000 CAD support fund so it can serve as sufficient proof of funds for the subsequent year.

All the best

Cheers!
