Outland living in Canada - Pregnancy

Hello all,

My wife and I have filed for spousal sponsorhsip (outland) on Wed, March. 25. I am sponsoring her and she has been living in Canada since the beginning of March on the regular 6 month visitor visa (from Spain). In this time she has become pregnant.

My questions are:

1. Should my wife return to her home country when her 6 months visitor visa is expired? Or should we apply for an extension? Or should she just remain here until her application is processed (which looks like It will be a very long time).

I do not like the idea of her travelling while she is pregnant and with covid. Aswell, I am worried that she would not be able to return to Canad, as we are planning on having the baby be born in Canada.

Nothing wrong with applying for an extension a month before the 6 months expire, perfectly legal.

Be prepared to spend at least 10,000 for a normal birth, 20,000 for caesarian and a whole lot more if there are any complications UNLESS she is covered by insurance.

Yes, she was able to receive msp coverage as she has applied for spousal sponsorship.

It depends on what stage of the application she will be in. You should double check with MSP and get a written confirmation.

Ah sorry for confusion. She already has msp coverage and the services card. As well, she has already gotten a doctor for the pregnancy and gone to check ups here.

Should we select as her reason for staying to visit ? And if so, for over or under 6 months ?

You should indicate that you are applying for spousal sponsorship and attach proof of payment for the sponsorship.

We also applied for outland sponsorship, and then I came to Canada. We were trying to request for OHIP but they refused saying that while the outland application is still in process I cannot apply for OHIP.
Is it possible for us to move to BC now and apply for MSP while our application is still in process and we applied outland but my husband's address was in Ontario?

Ontario has different rules than BC. You won't qualify for OHIP until after you are a PR.

Sure, you can move to BC. You'll want to make sure you continue living in BC for 6-8 months after you give birth. Otherwise you can expect the province may view this as health care system fraud and go after you for all costs related to the pregnancy and birth. You will need to update the address in your application once you have moved. As long as you have plans to remain in BC long term, there shouldn't be an issue.

There are other provinces without wait times (see link below). Regardless where you go, you'll need to live there a number of months after giving birth to avoid a circumstance where the province comes after you for health care system abuse.
