Hello forumites,

My citizenship application process was complete with a status of 'Decision Made' after I appeared and passed the Citizenship test. Due to Covid-19, the ceremonies were put on hold. Now, when I checked the status of application again, it was flipped back to 'In Process'. When I followed up they said:

"The status of your application changed as your clearances were no longer valid. You must have valid clearances in order to take the Oath of Citizenship. Your clearances have been resubmitted and are currently pending"

does anyone have any information about this, as my clearances were valid that's why they invited me for the test. What kind of clearances are these and how much time it will take after re-submission?

Thanks in advance..

Should not be a big deal. Updating clearances is a very routine procedure EXCEPT for the few who have issues, and they know who they are (protests to the contrary generally not credible).

These typically do not take long and are done in batches (a local office can refer up to a 100 clients at a time to the RCMP for clearance updates).

@Mike263 posted the validity dates for the various clearances.

Your experience fits into the scheme of things as best we can discern . . . "Decision Made," it appears, does not mean citizenship has been granted, yet, but apparently means the applicant has been *approved* for a grant of citizenship. It further appears that then the actual grant, which in normal before-Covid days, and scheduling for the oath, is done forthwith IF clearances are valid (current). Procedures clearly been badly stalled since Covid-19 so that step, from Decision Made to actual grant and scheduling of oath has been delayed. So in the meantime it was probably your RCMP clearance that needs the update (immigration clearance is repeatedly done throughout the process, even though technically each is valid for a year).

But again, should not be a big deal since this procedure does not bog applications down much at all (again, with exceptions . . . like the applicant who has been arrested or otherwise charged with a crime, which of course the affected person knows about).

Indeed, this is actually good news, acknowledging however that here again I am speculating some. It is good news since just the fact you can see the change from Decision Made to In Process means that IRCC is actually working its way through these applications and this is a sign there is going to be movement toward scheduling oaths even for applicants who were not previously scheduled for an oath ceremony that got cancelled. No idea how much progress this signals, or how fast (or more to the point, how slow) things will go, but many are sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for any sign of progress and this appears to be just such a sign.

Thank you so much for this great explanation!! That clears lot of things :)

What is immigration clearance?
I'm guessing, it would be sort of clearance conducted by IRCC itself. If it were something else, they would have specified it within the parenthesis.
