Using the extend stay as a visitor process you are on an implied status pending a decision from the moment you submit the application. This is what it says in the application process as below

Is it the stamped visa that runs out or the visitor record or the date of original entry to Canada that expires. Both have different implications, if you visitor record or the entry date prior to six months expires you are good with this extension as its called implied status. If your Visitor visa stamped on your passport is expiring you will have to leave Canada before the expiry.

Hi, it's his date of entry that expires on the 10th of August. We returned from Ireland on February 11, 2020. Thank you so much for your reply. Greatly appreciated
