Use of Representative & Linking Application Confusion

Hey there,
Me and my partner are applying for common law visa. I am the sponsor. We’re not using a lawyer.

I have a few questions.
  1. Do we need to sign “Use of Representative” and/or “Authority to Release Personal Information to a Designated Individual?” If so, who will be the representative? Me the sponsor or my partner the primary applicant?
  2. When do we link the application? Will we need to do it once it’s processed or before we send the application?
  3. Who’s CIC account do we link the application to? Myself (the sponsor) or the primary applicant?

Thanks!

1. You're not required to but some people do just so that the sponsor has access to everything. Alternatively, you could have your partner log into GCKey for you and show you the status.

2. You can't link the application until it's entered into the system at IRCC, so you definitely cannot do it before you've sent the application.

3. The application can be linked to any GCKey account provided you identify it correctly, but the application in GCKey is the primary applicant's application, so that's probably best. You can only link it to one GCKey account.

Thanks a bunch for the quick reply.

How long does it take for them to usually enter it into the system? Is it once the sponsor is approved?

Thanks!

To confirm my partner doesn’t need Use of Representative for their OWP application right? We just need to submit along with the Common Law application:

OWP Document Checklist:

Document Checklist (IMM 5556)
Application to Change Conditions, Extend my stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker (IMM 5710)
Statutory Declaration of Common-law Union (IMM 5409)
Proof of OWP Payment
Photocopies of Passport Pages

Cheers
