Hello All,

Please guys suggest me which apartments are good in Windsor. I am planning to move next month. Anyone who already moved or planning to move within 1 to 2 months...How's your preparation going on regarding moving?? Due to Covid, Can we do continuously work from home from Canada in this whole year on H1B?? The other thing is that now a days pr card will take more then 100 days...So without pr card, we will not daily commute from Windsor to Detroit...Is that correct??? I am also not sure whether my manager will allow me to do work from Canada so is there any way i can check my office laptop is working in Canada without inform my manager as I am doing work from home for the last 3 months and I can utilize further work from home from Canada so that at least my clock period will start. If anyone interested please contact me on my email canadapr1982@gmail.com so that we can further discuss. One more thing, anyone interested in near future once covid will over to accompany me to daily commute from Windsor to Detroit basically my job is in Lansing.....1 hour further from Southfield/Detroit/Farmington Hill/Ann arbor.

1. Except downtown area and some area closer to it, rest of the area should be fine. Once you decide on the area then you should drive around few streets/km from the apartment complex to see if the surrounding homes are in good condition and then you can proceed in signing the lease. https://www.skylineliving.ca/apartments-for-rent/ontario/windsor/
if you have child(ren) going to school then you should first decide on the school and then search on near by apartment(and find our nearby houses are in good condition). The admissions go by school district - https://geoquery.buskids.ca/Eligibility https://www.compareschoolrankings.org/.
2. You dont need any status to work from Canada. Technically you will not be on H1 status unless you reenter every 30 days to US. I am working from home since March and of course in the US system i am not on status. Its nothing but how we worked from offshore location for US based projects. It doesnt matter as you can seek new status whenever you decide to go back to commuting to US. All you need is the valid stamping ready so that you can start your commuting/travelling to US within short notice.
3. Its not correct. Just carry your landing document and show both landing paper and passport to cbsa and you will be fine. Not all have/had PR cards while entering to Canada via road as its not mandatory. I (like many others) have travelled with COPR+passport to enter Canada via road. So dont change your plan just for not having PR card. You need PR card(or prtd) to use commercial vehicles, not required for travelling via road using your/rental car/truck.
4. Canadian service providers dont block connecting to US vpn. So you should not worry on these.
But not telling your company and moving is a bad idea. Why because if you attempt to cross the border to US and if in case cbp wants to verify your employment then they will call your manager or HR during which if they dont know that you are outside the US then its a problem. So to me, one should always inform them(i know that there are many managers dont easily allow for many silly reasons) but somehow your company should be aware of your travel.

Point 4 is actually not about Canadian service providers blocking US VPN, it is vice versa.. companies that wish to mandate things to be accessed only from US could block the VPN traffic coming from IPs outside US.

Given covid you can‘t expect to be able to cross the border daily unless you can show that you do an essential job like working in healthcare.

I've been able to cross a couple times and I work in manufacturing. I think as long as it is work related it should be fine

It should be only be for essential workers. Are you crossing daily? If the amount of cases increase in Michigan rules could also become stricter.

A couple days a week. Not a lot of questions asked either upon entry to Canada. Just if anything to declare

Thanks for your explanation sir.One more thing, as us consulates are closed now, how we can do h1b stamping and without h1b stamping I can not return to us as daily commute . So,it means avr don't work after 30 days. We have to have to do stamping before coming to us.

One more thing Sir, As I am nominated from Saskatchewan, Can i go over there first and did initial formalities in Saskatchewan itself and then come back to Windsor or else no need to go over there and directly settle in Windsor? I am confused. please help me out.

Anyone planning to do landing in next month or two?

Anyone planning to move in Saskatchewan area?

1. You can use AVR. You lose H1 status if you dont travel within 30 days of your exit from US to Canada. So till you get the stamping done, make sure that you travel frequently for few days in a month to keep the status alive.
Officers will ask multiple times that why you dont have stamping but tell them that you will get the stamping done once the consulates open. As appointments still available to book, for the sake of booking(and showing to cbp if at all needed), just pay fee and book your appointment with some consulate in Canada(deosnt matter which one for the time being) so that you have evidence to show it to cbp that you are waiting for the interview.
(Later you can reschedule to the near by consulate whenever it opens in few months/weeks)
2. Yes you have to finish the PR confirmation formalities only in SK. Dont risk doing it at any other province. Also if cbsa asks tell that you want to move later. Dont tell that you are going to move to windsor. They would deny PR if they know that your intention is to settle in some other province when SK nominated you to settle there.
3. Yes later you can settle anywhere technically/legally. But first important step is to finish #2. Worry about #3 later.
4. Refer #2 and #3.

Thanks for your reply Sir. One more thing sir, please give me suggestion. I am confused whether i can move now or next year when this Covid will over. I am confused because I don't know due to Covid, I will get job in Canada and daily up down from Windsor to Lansing is very tough as one way the journey is around 2 to 3 hours. The other thing in my mind as my USA job is safe and I have valid H1B till August 2022 and I have time to move in Canada till 2023. What u suggest me can i move now so that my citizenship period will start or else i will first find some job in Canada and then move? or else I can complete my landing formalities in Saskatchewan and stay there for 2 weeks as quarantine and come back to USA and then move to Windsor? If I am move now as us consulates are closed so I am not able to do stamping which is required for daily commute from Windsor to Lansing. One more thing Sir, as of now I have work from home and let see my manger asked me to come to office and at that time if i don't have valid stamping, then I m not able to come to USA as avr is also not valid after 30 days...then what i can do in this scenario?? I am totally confused whether i can move now or later? One more thing Sir, u know any idea can we move mattress to Canada as I heard that we can only move mattress to Canada after did fully inspection from any mattress company...Is it true?

My view:
1. Finish the landing. if possible land during the last few days or couple of weeks (before expiry of COPR) due to current covid period.
I dont know how you can manage quarantine. I saw that few landed and returned without waiting. So i am not really sure hence you need to call both cbp to see if you can return next day after landing.
2. Assess when its safe for moving to Windsor. As landing is the only important immediate thing, you can move later once the cure/vaccine is ready or once you are comfortable to move.
Point to note: If the jobs at your current location is good then you can move whenever you want but if its kind of temporary then you should move soon so that you can start accumulating residency.
3. Dont leave US job. You cant easily/mostly get similar job with same pay in Canada.
4. Commute from Windsor for a year and see how it goes. I know its painful distance but its same distance as one commute to some Seattle suburbs daily. Due to #3, you need to first give it a shot on commuting first.
5. Moving household items: You can bring everything. I moved all items including mattress. No specific/separate inspection. But I dont know if its during covid we need to do something but you can call cbsa and find out.

What u suggest Sir?

You are not understanding the importance of why i say to land in SK. I already clarified the importance of it at #2 in my reply at https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/apartment-in-windsor.691359/#post-8678771
First get your landing completed as above. Rest(bank account, driver license, health card, bank account etc) is not important.
Why do you need driver license now? why do you need health card now? You cant get these without residence proof. You can open bank account in few mins once you move.

I understand your point Sir. My question is that If I am going Saskatchewan via Windsor, then my first port of entry is Detroit/ Windsor border where my landing formalities are done. Only then I will go Saskatchewan by road or by air. When I enter to Canada via Detroit/Windsor border, at that time officer will ask me address where they will send pr card, at that time I will give Saskatchewan address of my friend. Since there is no flight going now from USA to Saskatchewan due to Covid, the only option I have to go Saskatchewan by air via Toronto. Sir, from your perspective, I can go Saskatchewan via Toronto first and then 2 weeks quarantine in Saskatchewan...Correct?? Actually, my intention is to take apartment in Windsor first and left all my furniture in Windsor and also stay 2 weeks as quarantine and then after 2 weeks, go to Saskatchewan. Is that good idea??? If immigration officer will ask about my staying as quarantine, then I will explain I took apartment in Windsor and after 2 weeks of quarantine, I will go Saskatchewan. Any how I can go Saskatchewan but since there is no flight from USA, the only option I have to go via Toronto...Before Covid, there is flight for Saskatoon via Minneapolis.
