Birth certificate - common law sponsorship

Hello,

I am in the process of getting together the documentation needed to sponsor my common-law partner (from England). One of the requirements listed in the document checklist is a birth certificate.

Would a picture taken on a smartphone be sufficient, or does it have to be a photocopy? As well, does it need to be double sided, or only the front side? He can't locate his birth certificate right now, and we only have the picture of the front of it.

Not necessary maybe for some countries however the general role as per the checklist they always ask for photocopies as long as the document is in English or French.
