Changing of child last

Hello Everyone,
Am asking this question for a friend of mine.

His wife and daughter came into Canada as a refugee claimant, the daughter presently uses her mum last name, (the wife still uses the last name of the deceased husband) he his considering changing the daughter child last name to his own last name because he his trying to sponsor both of them for in Canada spousal sponsorship

is it possible to change the name in Canada even though she is refugee claimant waiting for their hearing. will this be a concern for the Refugee Board?

Please advice.

Changing the child's name won't make any difference to a sponsorship app.

As long as the child's name is legally changed, it's fine.

You can't just change someone's name you will have legal documents that will indicate that you petition for a name change. Would also ask the child what last name she wants. Why does she not use her father's last name? Wouls make more sense than the mother's maiden name given the mother has a different name.

Yes he would go through proper procedure with service ontario for the name change .
He his just concern about the refugee board name change process
