Hello,

my name is Veronica and I’m from Ecuador. I came to Canada in 2015 and my status expired later that year. I lived and worked as a nanny with a family I knew for 4 years. In 2019 I met my Canadian now husband and he is sponsoring me now. We are filling out all the documents and I’m asked if I worked. Should I list that I was a nanny? I’m worried that my friends will get in trouble that they hired me while I was out of status. Will CIC go after them? They are PRs.

Any advise can help.

You need to tell the truth and declare your illegal work.

Both they and you really should face consequences for it but that won't happen because of your app.

You and they are unlikely to be punished for working/hiring without status. If it Is found for other reasons both of you could get in trouble. Lying is more likely to have have negative repercussion for you.

CIC doesn’t notify CRA for all those folks who hired people out of status once they disclose? Does anyone know of examples?

It will be very clear that you worked illegally given the amount of time you were in Canada illegally. If you lie you can be accused of misrepresentation which is much worse than actually telling the truth. You will essentially be admitting what they already know and appear as an honest person not hiding things.

Yes, my dad. He has lived here for 20 years, and as every immigrant has been through a lot. He has known a lot of people in the same situation.... Probably you wanna say that your friends have been willing to help you with some food and accomodation, or that you got help from churches as well, or that you have done some volunteer work, and you got some food in exchange... And last but not least that you haven't ask for welfare (if that's the case) or any help from government even if you needed. But honestly, if your husband has started the application process already I don't think you will have any issues with this, as long your explanation is credible enough. Good luck!

IRCC will not disclose it to CRA.

This is the wrong advice. She doesn’t qualify for welfare so of course hasn’t used welfare.

Illegal work is NOT a reason for refusal in a spousal sponsorship app. However, lying about it 100% is a reason for refusal and a 5 year ban. Advising OP to lie is stupid.

Yeah... That's why he got the PR... Officers are not stupid, they know people work illegaly here... But they cannot control every single person. Every case is different, that's why I said she should get different insights
