Language Proof - Canadian Citizenship

Hello everyone,

I am going to apply for Canadian citizenship and wonder if my transcript can suffice as proof of English Language proficiency.

I completed only two semesters in an undergraduate program at a Canadian University. The last time I took classes was a year ago. So, I haven't finished my studies and I am not planning to return to school. On the one hand, I didn't finish my degree and don't plan to. On the other hand, I attended a post-secondary education program in English in Canada.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? If yes, would you recommend sending my transcript indicating that I completed only several courses or taking a third-party English test?

Thank you.

As far as I understand you need to have a degree from an english speaking country. I don't think 2 semesters count.

The alternative could be that you can send in your expired IELTS scores that you used for your PR application (if you did use them for your PR application?)

Hi, thanks for your reply. My IELTS certificate won't help, since I took the IELTS Academic test.

Hope that somebody else will respond and shed some light on my situation.

Yeah, sorry about that. It seems they require proof of completion.

On the bright side, the required scores for citizenship are really low, compared to getting a good score for PR, so you can go for it without any stress.

Best of luck.

I'd recommend doing a language test like the CELPIP as its much cheaper than going back to school and paying for a few semesters. Good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply. Will do the test then. Is doing CELPIP-G LS enough?

Dear all,
Is CELPIP LS still acceptable for Citizenship application language requirement?
Yes

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-0002-application-canadian-citizenship-under-subsection-5-1-adults-18-years-older.html#language

Results from a third-party language test

NOTE:
If you did the test in the past for immigration or citizenship purposes, we will accept the results even if it has expired.

  1. Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General Test (CELPIP-G) or the CELPIP-General LS (listening and speaking).
    • If you took the test after April 1, 2014, you must have a score of level 4 or higher in listening and speaking.
    • If you took the test before April 1, 2014, you must have a score of 2H or higher (i.e., 3L, 3H, 4L, 4H, 5L, or 5H) in listening and speaking.
Just ensure you have the required score.
