use passport to get a passport

my son's passport expires in 3 months. I lost his Canadian citizenship certificate. Can I use his current passport as proof of citizenship to get a new passport ? i know you can for adults but not sure for kids. thanks.

it doesnt, I've already looked at it. it says citizenship certificate but I am wondering about old passports can be used as proof of citizenship

I would go with the "wording" of the requirements. Does it say citizenship certificate OR passport? Or does it just list the documents? If I remember correctly, it is the latter. If it is the latter then you should apply for his certificate first. Passport applications are not being entertained at this time anyway unless proven urgent.
