Dear All,

Please guide me in how to apply visa for my family after receiving the student visa under SDS program?
Also due to the current COVID-19 pandemic my classes has been shifted online but I had received my student visa in the month of FEB, will this affect my family visa application?

firstly, not recommended to include spouse and children in your application. If you do that then how are you going to prove family ties to your home country and motivation to leave Canada as soon as you finish your studies?

It has been a while for your post. Your advice is like what many people will chose. I have a problem regarding this. If your family members are not included in the application for study permit and I assume you would apply vistor visa for them for the entry of canada. Then you may need to extend their staying in canada by applying for visitor record for your child or open work permit for your spouse. My question is will this have a effect on health insurance plan coverage for them (like UHIP) ? I am pretty concerned on this point. I read story that vistor visa is not suffiicent enough for applying for UHIP coverage while applying for vistor record or open work permit would take at least weeks. This kind of time window could be very risky in the time of pandemic like this. Could you share your opnion or personal experience please?

Thank you for your answer. So in order to have full coverage of health insurance for my family member, I must include them during the application of my study permit despite many people advice not to. Am I right?

now regarding your enquiry, you can directly apply for an open work permit and study permit for your child. my frnd did that 2 yrs back. he applied for a work permit for his wife and visitor visa for the child. later visa office asked him to cancel the visitor visa application for the child and instead submit a study permit as the child was going to school in his home country. both work permit for wife and study permit for child were approved.

regarding UHIP, you can add dependents to your plan. for more info contact your International Student Services Office.

I will also apply for a visa for my infant child. I have heard mixed stories about families being approved together/denied for a student visa. What do you think are our chances for next year? It's really impossible for any of us to say what your chances are. Yes - the results are mixed. Some people are approved and some are refused. Some of the factors that can influence this are your country of origin, what program you plan to take in Canada and your educational background, your level of funds, your ties to your home country, and previous travel to countries requiring visas.

I would recommend you show at least $20,000 in living expenses if all of you are coming together.

i am not an expert but in general (depends on province to province) it takes around CAD 2000 per month for expense of a famiy with 2 adults and a kid. so i think you may at least show CAD 24000 for supporting your expenditure for a year. experts may add any other views.

I'm helping my sister-in-law (in Iran) apply for study permit to Calgary (SAIT/BVC) or Vancouver (Capilano U). She wants to bring her spouse with her once she is hopefully granted admission and a visa for study permit but she has some concerns:

1. How can she bring her husband with her? Does she just need to include this request in her study permit application or does he also need to fill out an application at the same time? If so, which application exactly and how do they submit both applications together?

AND/OR

Will her spouse be granted an OWP and allowed to accompany her/what is the process for that?

She is interested in applying to English Language Foundations at those institutions:

2. Does anyone have experience regarding admission process for SAIT or Bow Valley College or know of any other places with similar English programs that have easier international intake processes/lower tuition and program costs?

3. She doesn't have her IELTS score yet but is working on it as I know that they only require a minimum score of 3.5. Has anyone taken the Duolingo test btw? How did you find it?

I'm not an expert but researched quite a lot in online. It seems like going for English study with low or no IELTS score makes the application very weak. Applying with family makes it more weaker. It's just my personal opinion, you may do your research.

Regarding OWP, spouse of international students are eligible and if granted a visa, in 100% cases they are granted OWP upon application.

Regarding which institution you should select, always check the designated institutions list if your sister needs to work on PGWP after study is complete. Usually the universities asking very low IELTS are not well established or well regarded. Bear in it mind.

He husband will not qualify for a permit if she is doing language course.

This is incorrect. Spouses of international students are not always granted a permit. More like 50/50.

I value your opinion as an expert. Can you help me with ideas on how can I establish better Local Ties with this profile? Seeking others inputs as well.

My profile:
1. Living in Bangladesh. Age 38 yrs, applying with family. 2 kids 9 yrs and 7 yrs. Spouse ex banker now house maker.

2. Work experience of 12 yrs in globally renowned bank. For last 3 yrs working in Supply Chain Management having BBA in marketing and MBA in finance. Now applying for 1 yr PGD course as I didn't have formal education in SCM.

3. I'm eligible for 1 yr sabbatical leave without payment for higher study. I'll come back to country for better carrier. My monthly gross salary is quite good in country appx CAD 4k.

4. My siblings are living abroad. I need to come back for my parents and their property assets management which are of handsome values.

Now plz suggest how can I show strong local ties when I take my family with me.
