Hello, I know that working abroad for a Canadian at full-time capacity counts towards citizenship. so I wonder if conducting research abroad to complete a Ph.D. thesis being registered in a Canadian university as a full-time student counts as well. Any thoughts?

As the bolded large font title you quoted very clearly states, that is for the PR residency requirement and has nothing to do with citizenship.
