Applying citizenship but passport will expire soon

Hi,

I currently have the PR card and planning to apply for citizenship.
I have Chinese passport for now but it will expire Sep 2020, also my PR card will expire May 2021.
If i'm going to submit the application in next few days, do i need to renew any of my passport/PR card to finish the application and/or interview?

We will ask you to come to a local citizenship office for a review of:

• the original documents you submitted with your application, and
• the passports and travel documents covering your five (5) year eligibility period.

I just saw this on the cic website. it says willl require passport for the past 5 years on the interview.
If i dont get the interview before my passport/PR card expires (most likely will not be that early given the global virus spreading), what will be the document or answer for the interview on that?

1. Your expired passport. There is no "law" that says you require a valid passport to apply for Canadian citizenship.

I had a friend who had his passport expired for more than 8 months when he applied 2 years ago. It was fine, he is citizen now. Make sure you have 2 valid Ids.

edit: Although he got that random quality assurance selection thing. We are not sure if lack of valid passport triggered that or it was really random. Regardless he sent the documents quick and the whole process took around 8 months for him.
