Hi. Greetings to all..Hope you are safe and healthy. I am a Canadian citizen working in UAE. The company I am working is about to close due to covid 19. I have been given 60 days to cancel my work visa and I really dont know what will be the future. I have 2 kids who are caandian citizens but my wife is an Afghan citizen. Is there any way to get a TRV for my wife to travel to Canada and apply for sponsorship inside Canada because my children are below 7 years old and I cannot leave them alone without any legal status because I am their sponsor for the residence visas in UAE. I am the only one financially supporting them. I am really in a strange situation and dont know what to do. Is there any way to get a TRV for my wife to come to Canada with the kids and then apply for the spouse sponsorship process Inside Canada. Any good suggestions please...thanks and stay safe all..best wishes

It's hard to say if a TRV will be approved or not - proabably a 50%/50% chance. You should certainly apply and hope for the best.

Generally speaking, it's more difficult for spouses of Canadians to get approved TRVs since IRCC often suspects the spouse isn't a genuine visitor but has plans to remain in Canada long term (e.g. come her as a visitor, apply for PR inland and then stay). Generally speaking, it easier to be accepted if you can demonstrate strong ties to your home country / country of residence (e.g. employment, property ownership) and if you have past travel to countries requiring visas such as the US and UK. Generally speaking, it's more difficult to be accepted if you are living in a country where you only have temporary residence (such as you are), and have weak ties / no travel history.

But you should by all means try. You would just follow the normal TRV process posted on the IRCC web site.

Note that processing times for all applications are slower right now due to COVID-19. You'll want to have a plan in place in the event you don't have an answer on the TRV within 60 days. She will not be allowed to board the plane for Canada without an approved TRV.

Good luck.

You may either have to go to a 3rd country if you want to remain together as a family or your your wife goes to Afghanistan or another country and you and your children return to Canada.
