I live in USA and hold Canada open work permit. I planned to travel Canada as a dependent of my spouse on April 1st. My employment start date there is also 1st April.
Due to coronavirus situations out there I am planning to postpone my travel plan by one month.
However, my Canadian employer wants me to join remotely and work from home. I would like to know if open work permit visa allows me to work remotely from USA?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Perhaps your employer meant working from your home in Canada?
Just thinking also whether you would need a work permit for the US if you are not a US citizen/PR
As for the permit, I am assuming if its for a short time it should be okay just like one on a work permit would need to travel to another country for a couple of weeks for work purposes?
My concern would be whether you applied for the OWP with an inland PR application?

Lets wait for responses from more experienced people

You don't need any status in Canada to work remotely in a different country.

Do you have a SIN? Have you landed with the OWP? Are they planning on paying you as an independent contractor?

Yes, initial one month in USA and relocate to Canada once Covid situation subsides. I got OWP as a dependent of my spouse and it's for 3 years.

You are essentially working as an independent contractor from the US and then when you enter Canada you start your new job. They will have to be processed differently and your tax liabilities will be first in the US and then different when you move to Canada. Assume you are working with their HR and payroll to figure out deductions, payment, etc.
