Hi everyone ! I am writing this for a friend as she is sailing in the same boat .Basically we both have our COPR but her validity is till 10 April while mine is till 23 May. We had to travel in the first week of April but admist this coronavirus scare we feel it's not safe to do so. She has already raised webform but hasn't received any reply yet.

She is skeptical whether this would lead to reopening of the case or they will simply extend the visa. Also she called ircc but the agent was also not very clear about the entire process and said anything can happen. We both are really confused please guide us.

Pls don't panic. This situation is affecting everyone. And the govt will be posting another update in a week's time. Meanwhile IRCC has made provisions for existing CoPR and recently expired CoPR profiles to raise a web form indicating that they cannot travel due to the travel ban. IRCC will only add an entry in your file and would extend your date for another 90 days. In all likelihood, you might be asked to do the medicals again. At this time it is best to take care of your health and the safety of your family.

Here is the latest update from IRCC - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/service-delivery/coronavirus/permanent-residence.html

Approved permanent residence applications (COPR and PRV)
Permanent residence applicants who are in possession of a confirmation of permanent residence (COPR) and permanent resident visa (PRV) and inform us, by submitting a web form to IRCC, that they are unable to travel within the validity of their documentation should be processed as follows:

  • Valid COPR and PRV: In an effort to reduce the number of cancelled COPRs and PRVs, a note should be placed in the file explaining that the applicant is unable to travel, and the file should be brought forward to the expiration date of the COPR and PRV. If the applicant informs IRCC that they can travel prior to the COPR and PRV expiration, they are encouraged to use their existing COPR and PRV to land.
  • Expired COPR and PRV: If the applicant informs IRCC via the web form that they were unable to travel after the expiration of their COPR and PRV, or if they were unable to travel prior to expiration, officers are to re-open the application, and it should be brought forward for review in 90 days.

The travel ban seems to remain effective until 30 June 2020.

Effective period

5
This Order has effect for the period beginning at noon Eastern Daylight Time on March 18, 2020 and ending at noon Eastern Daylight Time on June 30, 2020.

This order seems to be in conflict with what IRCC is saying .... but guess this order overrides IRCC.

Unfortunately this is often common with IRCC and even public companies where they create too many web pages but do not keep them aligned .

Personal view but the date in the order is more a date for the sake of putting a date in the document. The restriction could end one could hope earlier or could be extended the government has the flexibility to go either way. If however they had put in April 30 or May 31 it could give people false hope and they would simply have to keep extending.

COPR holders can travel now according to IRCC!
However, "those affected by these exemptions should not try to travel to Canada immediately. We will announce when the exemptions are in place, which we anticipate will be early next week".

What about Parents who have COPR under the Parents and Grandparents sponsorship class? Are they too allowed to travel?
Why would we want to send parents over when the situation is tricky. It's better to hold off and let the situation die down. Especially when IRCC is willing to give an extension to the expiry date.

  • permanent resident applicants who had been approved for permanent residence before the travel restrictions were announced on March 16, 2020, but who had not yet travelled to Canada

This point means that if we have a document with date 18th March on our documents, we can't travel?

How would we travel if there are no flights?
