Corona Virus Effects on Travelling (Risk of missing landing date)

So me and my wife received our PPR letter and submitted our passport for visa issuance. Our relative informed us that there is an article in Toronto Star that all visas are suspended till the 15th May 2020.

We are under the impression that we have a 30 day time period on the visa till which we have to report to Canada. Since we submitted the passports on the 12th March 2020 and hope to receive them by 20th March, we will well under the timeframe of 15th May.

What will happen in this case?

Visas are not suspended. If they were, that would be stated on the IRCC website.

COPRs are valid for around one year from the medical or passport expiry, whichever is first.

I'm in the exact same situation with CoPR expiring early August 2020. I am seriously considering doing a soft landing in April/May just to make sure my visa is activated. I just wonder if we have to lie to the immigration officer (saying we are landing permanently) or if we can tell them we're just doing a soft landing because of virus.

Why would you lie? You can land and leave on the next plane regardless of the reason.

Lufthansa has already cancelled by flight with a transit through Germany, I haven't recieved any refund yet, they are keeping silent. I had to buy another ticket through Turkish Airlines, but I have just learned now my country is reducing flights to Turkey twice!
Also, Trudeu said they are considering closing borders! I feel so devastated.

How do people come back to Canada after soft landing without their PR card in hands? I heard of ports of entry by car through USA, but you are supposed to have approriate visa to USA, right? I dont have that visa. Can IRCC mail the PR card to me to my country, or they only do that within Canada?

no, ircc will not mail cards outside canada.

What you can do is to have it mailed to some family or friend's address within Canada, and they can mail you outside canada.

my advice for anyone would be not to land anytime in the next couple months. companies pretty much asked everyone to wfh for the next couple months and there probably wont be a lot of hiring in a lot of companies. you wont get a health card for a few months and it will be a miserable time finding a place to live and finding work.

"we don’t allow third parties to get them for you. " - it means I cannot ask my friend to accept the package with the PR card when it mailed to the specified address?

How are you planning to return without the PR card? By private transport?

A PRTD is entirely different from a PR card. You can have your PR card mailed to someone in Canada who can then mail it to you OR you can apply for a PRTD when you are outside Canada.
