I applied to renew my study permit before it expired at the end of November last year. So under implied status I was able to continue with school and also work part time. I completed my program in January this year and so now I have applied for my Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). I was informed yesterday that as a result I am not allowed to work full time or part time until I get a response on my application. I would like to confirm if that is the case.

Thank you.

Its unclear, but it seem it is correct that you are not allowed to work, who informed you?.
Also you probably should not have applied for PGWP with implied status, this seems to be causing rejections for some people, but again guidance from IRCC is unclear in these implied cases.

Thanks for our response.

I was informed by a member of the international office at my school. I applied with implied status because I was worried about the 180 day window after graduation. I sincerely hope that does not lead to a rejection as I was unaware of any alternatives.

you are on implied status on student , so you can work under similar conditions( 20 hrs / week as student) until the decision is not coming on your study permit extension application . Even you applied for PGWP still you cannot work full time .Me went through same situation . Who told you you cannot work ? Read this
''If a temporary resident applies for renewal of their work or study permit and their permit expires before a decision is made, paragraph 186(u) and section 189 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) (the right to continue working or studying under the same conditions pending a determination of their application for renewal) apply only as long as the person remains in Canada. While You applied for PGWP , how much fee you paid just $ 340 including bio metrics or you paid additional $200 restoration fee as well ? If you did not paid restoration fee , then call immediately IRCC, and what I can do now?
Read this, sorry it's long but pls read it .

Extensions
  • If the extension is approved, the date of issue shown on the document represents the date a decision was made. Observations in the remarks box of the document indicate that the applicant maintained their status, as per subsection R183(6).
  • If the extension is refused, the applicant is considered in status until the day the decision is made on their application.
  • If the extension is rejected (incomplete), the applicant is considered in status until the temporary resident document expires.
Note: If a second application for extension is submitted after the first application and the decision rendered on the first application was

  • approved, then the new status applies.
  • refused, and the original permit was still valid when the second application was received, then the applicant maintains their implied status until a decision is rendered on the second application, and the applicant is out of status as of the date of refusal on the second application.
  • refused, and the original permit was expired when the second application was sent, then the applicant does not have implied status and is considered out of status. (As the applicant’s original permit was expired, they must apply for restoration. The second application was missing restoration fees and would be returned to the applicant for being incomplete)

Thanks for your response. I did not pay a restoration fee. Should I call now or wait for a response on my first application?
