hello,
is someone able to tell me what would be accepted as "documentation of financial support"? under the section where it speaks of validity of relationship it askes for us to pick 2 ways to prove we are in a legitimate relationship. one thing we will chose is letters from Friends and family and the only other thing we can chose is "documentation of financial support" can we use bank statements showing money transfers? If we can is it acceptable to black out where we spend our money? or is it best to leave it unaltered? Im having issues obtaining it because I just buy everything..... I dont really give him a set "allowance" when he needs $20... I hand him$20.... ugh... I didnt know We'd need to show that. any advice?

What we did was print our canadian joint bank account statement going back almost a year and both our paypal accounts because they show money transfers that Ive sent to cover my common-law partners US bills. We highlighted money being sent from both Paypal accounts as well as her US bank to show money being sent, recieved, and bills paid. We didn't blackout anything. We also Included our joint cell phone plan and the rental agreement for our place. Hope this helps!

thank you for your reply @Chroniverous sadly none of that is possible we Don't have a joint bank account and whenever he needed money I simply withdrew cash and gave it to him. his only bill is his cell phone which is in my name (I just have 2 phones under my plan) and he moved in with me into the house I already owned...... soooooooo yea this ones gonna be a tough one! In the section that asks for this it says to provide 2 ofthe following items
1. Important documenfs for you and your spouse showing you are recognized as each others spouse (such as employment or insurance benefits.
2.Documentary evidence of financial support betweem you and your spomsir and/or shared expenses.
3. other prood that your relationship is recognized by friends and/or family.

we plan on providing multiple letters from both friends ans family from both sides (also have a ton of pictures)

and today I work I was able to obtain proof that I have him listed as my benificiary for life insurance and that he is on my health care plan. So Im hoping I wont have to use the financial proof anymore, But we only have that one document and the wording says on the application "documents" plural. Now Im wondering if that will be sufficient? or because we only have the 1 document from my side showing I reconize him as a spouse but nothing from him statimg he recognizes me as a spouse will that not be enough? ugh.... Im so dumb I should've looked at what all we needed months and months ago!!!
it also says if you can not provide documents from a min of 2 of the above provide a detailed letter....... Im hoping if I explain my stupidity of not tracking things and submit everything that itll be ok. this is so overwhelming! we are so stressed out!!!!!

thanks for trying to help its appreciated

No problem

I would do the beneficiary, letters, and even see about putting him on any house utility bill. As for our phone plan I was I able to add my common-law partners name to my plan. Anything you can send that has both your names tied to it should work.

Bumping this thread...

I also have the same problem and don't know how to provide proof of relationship to sponsor...

-proof of joint ownership of residential property
-rental agreement
-proof of joint utility accounts, or joint bank accounts
-vehicle insurance
-copies of government issued documents showing the same address (IE Drivers license)
-pay stubs, cell phone bills, bank or credit card statements, insurance policy

My question is this, if you are not a PR and just a tourist/TRV you do not have a SIN. Therefore how the hell can you have a joint credit card, drivers license, utility bill, credit card statement, insurance policy, etc? Is there something I don't understand as this seems to be an idiotic request from IRCC, why would anyone as a tourist or foreigner possess documents that already show permanent residence in Canada?

Did you receive a response from anyone on this as this is a valid question?

You can open an account at a bank with other identification. Also, most of those proofs are for those that live together IN Canada. If you are living apart, you have separate proofs that you need.

It seems contradictory that as a Temporary Resident you have to prove you will return home to your own country but for the purpose of an inland PR application you have to show you are living in Canada. Regardless, some of the documents they ask for are attainable and if they are not attainable you can always write a detailed letter of explanation for why you can not attain them.

In British Columbia Canada my spouse, whom is a Temporary Resident, was able to attain the following without a SIN:
- Joint Utility Bill (BC Hydro)
- Joint Bank Account (Coast Capital Savings)
- Personal Bank Account (Coast Capital Savings)
- Joint Credit Card (TRUE joint credit cards are hard to come by. I obtained a new personal credit card under my name and added my spouse as a secondary card holder)
- Cell Phone Number/Account (Freedom Mobile, pre-paid plan)
- Joint Lease Agreement
- Insurance Beneficiaries (her on my work policy, me on her visitor medical insurance policy)

Also note that we could not obtain a government issued Drivers Licence or BCID as you need a Visitor Record with validity over 6 months to qualify. A TRV in the passport is not sufficient.

It wasn't necessarily easy but it was possible for us to gather enough documents to meet this requirement.
