Hi,

We have an approved PR and wish to inquire regarding our travel to Canada for completing the PR Process in the current scenario of COVID-19. Our PR Visa expires on 2nd April, 2020 and we are planning to land from India on 21st March 2020. Due to the current COVID 19 situation, we are contemplating on our travel plans and would need your help with the following questions:

1. What happens if both primary applicant and the dependent are unable to travel before expiry of visa?
2. What happens if the primary applicant lands in Canada before the expiry of visa, but dependent chooses not to travel due to COVID-19? (Does this mean dependent's PRV can get extended or will he have to file application again?) Does this also affect the primary applicant?
3. What qualifies as a justified reason to not travel given the current scenario of COVID-19?

Thank you so much for your help. Appreciate an early response.

1. Depends on where you are and the circumstances. If you can travel to Canada and choose not to, your COPRs will expire and you will have to apply all over again.

2. Their choice, COPR would expire and the primary applicant would then have to sponsor the spouse.

3. Unless you are stuck in a quarantine zone or a country with closed borders, you can travel.

Just land.

Unless they explicitly say they are going to give an extension for landing purposes to you, you must land before your COPR and PR Visa expire.

Unfortunately waiting until the last minute to land comes with big risks. Given the covid situation I would consider travelling earlier if possible. I am sure many airlines are allowing people to change their flight times for free. If you are doing a short landing I would consider landing and returning right away to avoid getting stuck in quarantine in Canada.
