Hi all!

After applying in September 8th 2019 we finally got the request for passports for the permanent residence!

It is very clear that if you dont need a visa to travel to Canada you dont need to provide your passport.
However as my wife is Chinese (meaning she needs a visa) and I am an EU citizen (meaning I dont) would that mean that I just need to provide her passport to the London office along with a copy of my own or do they need both?

Please see from the mail I received this morning:

QUOTE

If you require a visa to enter Canada, then submit your passport(s):

  • Please provide your valid passport or travel document and a valid passport or travel document for each accompanying family member. An accompanying family member must have his or her own passport or travel document.
  • There must be at least two blank pages in your passport(s).
  • Please note that permanent resident visas cannot be placed in Diplomatic, Official or Military passports or travel documents.
  • All passports must be intact and not worn, torn or otherwise damaged; the laminate on the bio-data page must be securely attached. Each page must be securely affixed to the passport; there cannot be any loose pages.
  • Your Permanent Resident document(s) will expire one year after the date of your medical examinations or earlier if your passport or the passports of your spouse or dependant children (if applicable) expire on an earlier date.

If you do not require a visa to enter Canada:

  • Please submit one photocopy of the photo page and any pages containing amendments of the valid passport for you and one for each accompanying family member .
  • Your Permanent Resident document(s) will expire one year after the date of your medical examinations or earlier if your passport or the passports of your spouse or dependant children (if applicable) expire on an earlier date.
  • Please note that you cannot use a Diplomatic, Official or Military passport to travel to Canada to become a permanent resident of Canada. You must be in possession of an ordinary passport.

Seems they didnt really plan on couples with different passports :)

Any and all help much appreciated, I am trying to find a number I can contact for confirmation but so far no luck, do i need to call CPC-Ottawa as they are the ones processing my case or should I call locally in Europe?

I am travelling to London Monday to give in the passport and documents so any response this week would be greatly appreciated!

Just your wife's passport is required because you don't need a visa to enter Canada with your EU passport.

However, you do need an ETA, which you shouldn't forget.

OP doesn't need to apply for an eTA. It will be issued automatically by IRCC.

As I am flying to London on Monday I just wanted to make sure that I have got this right:

- I bring my wife's passport (who is a Chinese national and therefore needs a visa)
- I bring a copy of my passport
- I will not need to apply for an eTA since my entry will be granted via the permanent residence application

Now a bonus question for 500 points, if we go to Toronto stay at an airbnb for 10 days but give my wife's uncle address in Calgary for the permanent residence cards, do we then register as Toronto or Calgary residents? The reasons I ask this is because we plan on moving to Toronto in December-February after the birth of our child in August in Denmark and wanted to hear of the 10 days count towards the 3 months probation for IHOP or does it start over when we are gonna such a long time? I am contacting insurance companies next week and want to know how long a period I need covered.

Thanks again to everyone, I hope I will be able to give back on this forum once we have settled or if anyone has questions about the process etc.

You need to establish residency in Ontario in order for OHIP coverage to take effect. It would be 3 months after Dec - Feb from the day you actually move to Toronto

Where you want your PR cards to be delivered is irrelevant.
