Separation/ divorce effect on citizenship application while on process

As a skilled workers we got out PR. Now We submitted our citizenship application separately but as a married applicant. We want to know how separation/ divorce can affect our citizenship application process. Do we need to inform CIC about our separation.

If you are separated or divorced you can’t apply and say you are married.

but if the separation happened while application in process. Do we need to notify them. Our immigration wasn’t on the base of sponsorship. It is through skilled workers path.
