Can a Canadian citizen lose Canadian residency status? To be clear I’m asking about Canadian residency, not Provincial residency status.
So the question is this: My disabled friend is a Canadian citizen. Born in Toronto and lived and worked in Canada for 35 years. For most of the last 4.5 years He has lived in the US to receive treatment for a disability that he has which is not offered in Canada. He is not a US permanent resident and still pays disability income tax every year and files Canadian taxes every year.
Hes not concerned about losing his Canadian citizenship. Just his Canadian “residency” status because his private insurance policy (not government) requires him to be a “resident of Canada” to keep receiving the benefits of the insurance policy.
So can a Canadian citizen lose Canadian (federal, not provincial) residency?
thank you very much!
