Open to Closed work permit - Please help.

Hi There,

My friend is on open work permit and we are planning to apply for closed work permit. Could you please help me understand if we get all the documents from employer like Business license, incorporation certificate, offer letter, reference letter, would that be enough? if yes, how to apply for closed work permit?

Is closed work permit different from LMIA or is the same thing?

On what basis is your friend planning on switching to a closed work permit?

No - a closed work permit and an LMIA are not the same thing. An LMIA is something the employer must obtain. Typically an approved LMIA is required before someone can apply for a closed work permit.

No - the documents you have mentioned are not enough to get a closed work permit unless the job is LMIA exempt.

Again, on what basis is your friend applying for a closed work permit? Has your friend determined if they are LMIA exempt?

Here are the requirements for the employer to get an approved LMIA. An LMIA is almost certainly required to switch to a closed work permit.
