COPR received, waiting for landing, passport expiring

Hi,

I have received my COPR in Dec, 2019. I submitted a web form to schedule an inland landing appointment in Vancouver, BC. I got an email reply on Dec 9, 2019, saying that I will be contacted in three months to have my landing appointment scheduled. My passport and my work permit are expiring on Mar 26, 2020.

(1) I wonder if I can bring my COPR to Service Canada to change my SIN so that I have the opportunities to find a long-term job? I have not completed the landing process.

Also, to renew my passport, I will have to bring it to the embassy and have it sent back to Asia, and receive a new passport in three weeks. During this period, I will not have my passport so I cannot do the landing.

(2) How long does it usually take to receive a reply from the Immigration office to schedule an appointment for landing since the time of the request being sent?

(3) Can I send another web form to tell them that I will not have my passport on hand for three weeks while it's being renewed? I may start the renewal process in early February 2020.

Any advice?
Thanks,
Howard

Why not just flagpole instead of waiting for an inland appointment.

Seems you already answered (1) that until you land you are not a PR.

Can I still flagpole at the Canada-US border if my passport is expiring on Mar 26, 2020? I believe there is a general rule that a passport needs to have a validity of 6 months or longer for traveling or crossing a border. Not sure if it is correct.

Thanks.

Should not matter since you are becoming a PR.
