Hello,

I am currently filling out a sponsorship application for my wife to move to Canada (I am a Canadian citizen) and one of the forms asks for my wife's husband's travel history for the past 10 years. As her sponsor and also husband, does this mean I have to include my 10 year travel history?

Thanks,

Luke

I don't believe you do - at least I didn't, and wasn't returned. The instructions say "The principal applicant and all family members included in the application who are 18 years of age or older must complete this form."

I read the phrase "family members included in the application" to mean the sponsor is excluded from this as not applying for residency (and note that Canadian citizen-dependents as well, since they are also not 'included in the application.')

Hello,

Thank you for the reply. I am looking at Form imm5562e and in the form itself, it does not specify that it's "family members included in the application."

The form states the following:

"List all trips you, and if applicable, your family members have taken outside your country of origin or of residence in the last ten years (or since

your 18th birthday if this was less than ten years ago). Include all trips: tourism, business, training, etc. If you or your family member did not

travel outside of your country during this period, check "did not travel". There is in then part B to this question that has the option for the spouse of the applicant to enter his/her travel details.

I feel from reading this, it does include myself and since my wife turned 18 in 2012, I would have to include the last 8 years (2020 - 2012 = 8) of travel for myself.

The relevant phrase was in the guide and instructions.

Note, I can't provide a direct link as the guide generates pages with instructions for applicants from countries which require the travel background info.

Nonetheless, the text is this: "Supplementary Information – Your travels [IMM 5562] (PDF, 1.76 MB)
The principal applicant and all family members included in the application who are 18 years of age or older must complete this form."

You can do the same by entering the relevant country by going to this page:
https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp

If anyone has more definitive info, would welcome. I remember researching this carefully when completing our package and coming to conclusion that did not apply to the Canadian citizen-sponsor, or at least in our case, but now cannot find more specific sources for clarity.

ONLY the PA and their family members over 18 have to provide their travel history. IRCC is not concerned about the sponsor travel history.

Thank you everyone for the information, much appreciated!

I also have one other question which is not clear from the forms.

My wife needs to get a police clearance and she is the only person I am sponsoring. In the Forms, it states "You (the principal applicant) and any family members 18 or over (who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents), must submit police certificates from the following country or countries..."

Is she the only person that needs the police certificate for the country she is living in or do her family members such as her parents need to get one too? The wording of "any family members 18 or over" is throwing me off.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Similar to above, the relevant 'family' here is the applicant (your spouse) plus dependants. Note that you should double-check if there are any non-accompanying children.

The 'family members 18 or over' here mainly refers to children of the applicant over 18, as for immigration purposes children up to 22 can be dependents.
