I would like to visit my sister in canada. I am on H1B with expired US visa. I would like to apply for a canada visitor's visa. Would it be an issue to get a visitor visa, with expired h1 visa?

Has anyone here tried applying for visitor's visa on expired US visa?

p.s. I am aware of AVR process but would prefer to have a visitor's visa. My wife has an expired canadian visitor visa, she's on H1B with expired US visa as well and my kids are US citizens

There's a very high chance of refusal without a valid visa.

You will be asked for current Visa status to apply for Canadian Tourist visa, is your H1b just expired on passport only ? and AVR only applies to US, not related to Canada.

Yes, I have a valid I-797 but the H1-B visa stamp on the passport has expired

Thank You! i am visiting family though and i plan to mention about AVR process (for reference)
Hello, were you able to apply and get canada visitor visa successfully? I'm also in similar situation where I have I797A/H1B but no valid stamping in passport. In forums I have red mixed responses about AVR as it's related to US and canadian officers may not have complete understanding that it permits reentry to US even without H1B stamp in passport and hence denial chances are high
