Hi All,

I have concern regarding my BOWP. I applied for my BOWP on 14th April, it went "on hold" on June 1st, after that I haven't heard anything about it. I checked my account today and noticed that status of my BOWP is now changed back to "We are processing your application"... What does this mean..? Can anybody shed some light on this..? I am on implied status since 12th June, 2017.

My PR file is also in progress, passed Medical before 2 weeks.

Please help...!

Thanks

It will change to on hold if your PR application have not passed R10(document completeness check). After you passed R10 they will start processing your BOWP.

This is a good sign regarding to your PR application which indicates you have passed R10.

My BOWP application changed to "on hold" since May 11. Then it changed to be blank after the system maintenance in June, I guess, till now.

Hi there, could you please let me know how to apply BOWP by mail. I did not see this option while apply online. How I pay the fees and get the receipt if I send everything by paper? much appreciated!

Hi,

Just fyi, you can't bridge any visa.

For example, if you are under the IEC (work holiday visa), you can't ask for a bridge if you haven't submitted everything and paid your Permanent Residency.

To apply for a bridge visa (or BOWP), do the following
Go to your IRCC account - https://onlineservices-servicesenligne.cic.gc.ca/mycic/home
At the bottom of the page, look for "Start an application" title and click on "Apply to come to Canada"
On the next page, below "I do not have a reference code", you should have a blue button with "Visitor visa, study and/or work permit", click on it
Then you have to answer some questions:

What would you like to do in Canada?
- For example, if you currently are in Canada with a work permit and want to continue working select "Work"

How long are you planning to stay in Canada?
Select "Temporarily - more than 6 months"

Continue to answer all the questions and then you'll see if you are eligible and if you are, this is were you'l have to submit everything and pay.

I am confused as to what to put in the IM5710 when I am asked what type of work permit are you applying for? There is no option for a bridging open work permit. Should I select Open work permit or other and then in the other cell type BOWP?

This is where it's confusing when you're trying to have the same terminology everywhere.

They call it a "Bridging open work permit" here (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/extend-permit/bridging-open-work-permit.html) but nowhere in the form it's called like that because for IRCC this is just another Open Work Permit that will act as a bridge between one visa and another.

In the IMM5710 you have to choose what apply to your situation.

For myself, I did the following (current visa: Work Holiday Visa - waiting for PR Inland Federal Skilled Worker):

3/ Apply for a permit for the first time or for a new employer (as my previous visa - WHV - was not tied to an employer)
7/ Worker

Page 3 - Details of intended work in Canada
1a) Open Work Permit

You normally don't have to say or mention it's a bridge or BOWP because the questions you've answered before will provide the context (that you currently have a visa that is due to expire and that you want a 'BOWP'). They already know.

Thanks for the explanation! It was very helpful. My last question would be. Do I need to add employer information if it is an open work permit?

I added my current employer and my previous work experience at the end of page 3 and beginning of page 4 but I didn't specify an employer at the beginning of page 3 because my current visa is not tied to an employer so after "Open Work Permit" in 1a), I left blank section 2/3/4/5/6/7 of page 3.
