Hi everyone,
I completed my landing this morning! The actual "interview" was no big deal, but the process was exhausting (I landed at the Etobicoke office so it may be specific to that location). My appointment was at 9:00am, and by the time we got there, the waiting room was already overflowing with people and there was a line to check in. The security guard asked if we had an appointment, so I guess they take walk-ins? We checked in at 8:40am and received a number. They wouldn't let anyone wait in the lobby, so we were crammed into this tiny waiting room with no air flow and no personal space. Our number didn't get called until just before 10:00am. It was a long 80 minutes.
Luckily the officer was super friendly and the interview itself only lasted about 5 minutes. I provided the items listed on the invitation letter and she looked everything over. She asked a few questions:
- Current address
- Original date of entry (when you entered with intent to apply for PR)
- Most recent date of entry
- Whether I had a criminal history or had been ordered to leave Canada
- Confirmed my husband/sponsor's willingness to undertake and employment status
Signed a couple of forms and that was it!
There was a Service Canada down the hall so I updated my SIN there, then went straight to Service Ontario to apply for OHIP. Spent maybe 5-10 minutes at each office, and was happy to find out the 3-month waiting period for OHIP was waived "because PRs shouldn't have to wait". I should receive my PR card and my health card in the mail within 4 weeks.
So long story short, once I finally got in to see the immigration officer, it was smooth sailing from there. The waiting sucked though. Definitely prepare yourself.
Good luck everyone!
