Dear All,

I am a Pharmacist and have done Masters in Public Health. I have an experience of 8 years in Public Health and wish to apply in the Managers in Public Health category.
While going through the documents certifications process, i found that in WES and ICAS it says ''Principal applicants intending to apply as a Physician/Specialist Physician (NOC 3111 or 3112) must be assessed by the Medical Council of Canada. Individuals intending to apply as a Pharmacist (NOC 3131) must have an assessment from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada''
If I am applying on the basis of Public Health and not Pharmacy degree, do i still need to go through the assessment, specially when I dont plan to pursue my career in pharmacy (as I have moved to Public Health.

Please guide.

You don’t qualify for noc3111 or 3112. You’re not a physician. If you are not applying as a pharmacist not you don’t need to go through PEBCs. Finding public health jobs are quite challenging even with a masters degree in Canada. It is a popular degree to pursue.

Sorry just realized you wrote 3131. No need to apply for phm degree evaluation through PEBC if you are not applying as a pharmacist.

If relevant jobs are not encouraging can we switch career for better growth prospect? Please reply. If you have an idea about NOC 4163, it would be of great help too. My spouse has that NOC 4163.Our CRS score is 461 with my spouse as primary applicant and she would lose 5 points on March 18, 2020.

There is significantly more pharma jobs and a much bigger industry in India. In terms of your wife that NOC is very broad. Do you have good jobs in India and a good lifestyle. Have you not researched whether the opportunities are actually better in Canada? You can’t just switch jobs to jobs that have better growth prospects. You can try to start a business if you have a good idea. Some succeed and lead to lots of success but some fail. There is no secret job that guarantees wealth in Canada. You both need to do a lot of research. Reach out to people in your industry and ask about the current job market, whether foreign credentials will be accepted by employers and then look at the cost of living in Canada. You are pretty much limited to The GTA based on your desired careers. Both parents usually have to work. Commuting can be long, you tend to get 2-3 weeks of vacation unless senior management or a job with scheduled breaks like a teacher. Sometimes salaries are the same in both Canada and India but your standard of life is much better in India.

Job prospects in India are not as great as it was earlier. Major chunk of earnings here goes to children education and health with no social security. Standard of life in India is not better than Canada in any aspect.

Based on preliminary research there are no serious issues with job prospects in Canada for my NOC 3131B & Spose NOC 4163. Need to research more on Business opportunities. My wife is a senior market research analyst also does competitive intelligence in current role in a pharma MNC in India.

Why is Public health job challenging in Canada?
and if i apply as a pharmacist, then do i have to take test ?? what would be the procedure?

There are a huge amount of graduates and only so many public health jobs. There are also a huge surplus of pharmacists so salaries have been decreasing over the past 15 years and good full-time jobs are hard to find.

Based on preliminary research there are no serious issues with job prospects in Canada for my NOC 3131B & Spose NOC 4163. Need to research more on Business opportunities. My wife is a senior market research analyst also does competitive intelligence in current role in a pharma MNC in India.

Both your roles are very pharma industry specific and the Canadian pharma industry is quite small. Most labs that are doing drug discovery will usually require PhD for many positions. Just warning you that with such well established jobs you really need to look whether a move is smart.

I finished two 1-year programs in canada. 2 years work experience in different companies as a community pharmacist back home. and currently on post-grad work permit as pharmacy assistant. I wonder which one should I priority first, wether the application for PR ( i dont have enough CRS points) or the preparation for PEBC exams coz I dont think 3 years stay here would be enough to finish the whole process of licensure. a little help and enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. thank you .. You only have a 1 year WP so your goal need to try and do anything possible to qualify for PR by the end of the year. There is no way to extend PGWP. You need to also find a way to remain in Canada once your PGWP expires if you haven't received ITA.
