Hi, I am very surprised that as you passed the test almost a year ago that you have heard nothing. Have you spoken to anybody on the IRCC helpline at all and have they shed any light on this at all? Have they advised or given you any information as to why you have heard nothing. I would be concerned at this stage that the office may have overlooked your file or mistakenly thought everything was complete - assuming the helpline have not told you otherwise?

An online communication should instigate a response in 5 working days.

You could try obtaining your file but this will take time and in the meantime, you are still in the same boat. Or you could contact your local MP and explain the situation since the average should be 1 year. Personally I would call first, if I am unhappy with the response I would send a formal online communication, and after 5 days, I would approach my MP and ask for their help. Others may have better advice or have a way to expedite this. Hope all works out for you very quickly.

Last time I spoke with them on the helpline (November 2019), they didn't tell me anything of value - they said it was still "In Process (I do see that myself ) and that 12 month processing time is "just an average" and individual times may vary. So, I just sent them an online, case-specific inquiry yesterday, asking for the update and reasons for the delay. I'll share whatever I hear from them, which should end of the next week sometime. Next is checking with an MP - thanks for reminding me of this venue! So, it looks like that an immigration lawyer would not be able to do anything different from these steps - inquiries and getting an MP involved, at this point, right?

Did they say the background check is going on or something...i applied in Sep 2018 and wrote my test in Sept 2019 but since then nothing the status is still in progress...calling them every week but same answer just wait...i have contacted MP this week lets see what they reply to MP..

No, they said that by us having taken and passed the tests, all "case processing" steps have been completed. Now, the immigration officer has to "get around" finalizing the decision and fitting us in with one of the oath ceremonies. However, the weird thing is that a friend of ours, who filed her application in December of 2018 (four months later) and who wrote the test on the same date in April together with us, she is already a citizen having taken the Oath in September of 2019. Yet, our case is still showing "In Process". Weird...

I am from Calgary....whenever i call they background check is going on and i am not sure how long would it take it? its case by case though i applied for my wife in Jan 2019 and she got everything by June 2019 and i am still waiting...

Well... God willing, you and I will both see the speedy and positive resolution of this situation. Wish you good luck! It is strange though that your background check is going on AFTER having passed the test. I have never heard of that - the background check is the very first thing they usually do once they start processing the application. All the best!

You can sign the release form that comes in the mail along with the invitation, beforehand. After receiving the certificate, they'll ask you to sign a form as well.

I personally believe that an immigration lawyer, at this stage, will cost you money but asking for an update and reasons for a delay via an MP does not and I suspect will get the same response from immigration anyway. These are my own thoughts and others on the forum may have a different view. If you still get nowhere and are still waiting a month or so on, then maybe consider next steps / lawyer at that point. You may hear something from your online enquiry next week which throws light on next steps.
