Need Help: Work Off Campus Authorization on Study Permit

Hi! I have an inquiry about the "work off campus authorization remarks" on the study permit. I study at a three-year program in UT. My study permit does not authorize the holder to engage in off campus employment, but I am eligible to work off campus according to requirements on the IRCC website. I want to apply to add such remarks about work authorization to my Study Permit.

I refer to the IRCC website and it seems I cannot simply request to "amend" the Study Permit because there is a sentence "does not authorize off campus employment" in my Study Permit. Instead, it instructs me to submit a new application "Extend Study Permit" to change the conditions of the study permit. However, I never change my study status since I got this study permit and there is no need to extend my study permit. I wonder whether I should submit a new application or just request to amend the Study Permit to change remarks about work off campus authorization? If I submit an "Extend Study Permit" application to change the remarks of work off campus authorization, do I need to address this in my new application (because I'm really worried that I will get the same study permit which still does not authorize me to work off campus)?

(Besides, my three friends who study at the same program as mine all got Study Permits which authorize them to work off campus so I don't know why I'm not authorized and how I can amend this.) Sorry for the disturbance but I cannot reach out to IRCC and I can never speak to the agent when I called the number on my study permit. I also submitted my inquiry through Web Form several times but never got useful or corresponding solutions and replies. I feel helpless as I've been working on this problem for more than four months. I really, really appreciate your help!!

Thanks for your time. Have a good day!

You need to submit the form the website tells you to, unfortunately. Explain what you want in a letter.
Thanks for your reply! Is "the form" here the "Web Form" in Contact? I have submitted this form several times but never got the corresponding replies but irrelevant information. I wonder what I should do. Thank you for your time!

It's what you said here:
Instead, it instructs me to submit a new application "Extend Study Permit" to change the conditions of the study permit.

It's what you said here:
Get it! Thanks! I also wonder is it appropriate to include "my three classmates who study at the same program as mine all got study permits which authorize them to work off campus" in the letter. I think this may help justify my request but I'm also worried this sentence may annoy the officer.

I also have another question that my student visa (which was printed on my passport page) expires in 2020. I wonder whether I can use my visitor visa (expires 2025) to enter Canada and use the study permit to study here. Or I need to apply for a new student visa (which I can't find where to apply as I only find the application of study permit on IRCC website).

Thank you!

What your classmates have on their study permits is no justification for yours. I wouldn't include that.

I'm confused what you're asking about your study permit. You said it was valid for three years and that you needed to amend the terms and conditions to work off campus. Now you're saying you're not in Canada and need to enter Canada and start studying?

Don't extend your SP.
I have been through this, as long as your course is eligible to work off campus, as long as your classmates don't have any restrictions you are able to amend it.

https://students.ubc.ca/international-student-guide/immigration/study-permits/tutorial-amend-study-permit-conditions-work-canada-apply||

follow the link, I did mine in 2018.
Free of charge.

The website will tell you "To Extend" that is to change conditions, if you changed courses and your course is now eligible, like some who take ESL courses etc.
When I landed at the airport, the officers did a mistake and I thought my course "Flight training" isn't eligible for off campus employment, but I found out that all my classmates had authorization, then I just amended my SP.

Sorry about the confusion. I'm in Canada now, but I will leave Canada this June and come back Spetember. So I worried the expiration of the student visa in my passport may be a problem and not sure whether I should reapply it.

Thank you for your reply! I will read the instruction. Yes, I saw the amend instruction. But I also noticed in the IRCC website, it says "If the following remark is printed on your study permit: This permit does not permit the holder to engage in off campus employment in Canada, and you have become eligible to work on or off campus without a work permit (e.g., you have transferred to an eligible program of study), you must apply to change the conditions of your study permit and pay the applicable fee."

That's why I'm confused, as like you say, I did not change my courses. I wonder whether there is "not authorize the holder to engage in off campus employment" in your study permit? Or it just did not explicitly say "may accept off campus work"?

I noticed similar things are mentioned in the link you shared:

"You are eligible to amend your study permit if it does not have the correct conditions related to work, for example:

  • It states “Unless authorized, prohibited from engaging in employment in Canada”, or
  • It states “This permit does not permit the holder to engage in off-campus employment in Canada”, or
  • Does not include any conditions related to work"
As there are both conditions and sentence like "does not authorize the holder to engage in off campus employment", I'm not sure whether I am eligible to amend and what I should do.

Thank you!
