Best Approach to Spousal Sponsorship?

I'm not sure how much information is needed, but basically my fiance and I are trying to determine the best route/approach to the spousal sponsorship.

My fiance is an American located in Texas and I am a Canadian located in Manitoba. We plan to get married in Canada. While I think I have gained a pretty full comprehension of the spousal sponsorship, what we are currently struggling with is when/how to get married. Originally, we were planning to have him come visit, get married, & then immediately apply for the sponsorship. We are comfortable having the 4-6 months in which he is on a visitors visa and cannot work until he gets the work visa. However, after some other comments I have read, I am worried that this approach may not bring about the most likely success? Are we better off to have him visit, get married, and then have him return home to Texas before applying for the spousal visa? The issue with this of course is that it will likely be a longer period apart, which we would like to avoid. Either way, I suppose my question really comes down to which approach is most likely to bring us the greatest success?

Neither way has more chance of success. Entirely your personal choice whether he stays here or returns to the US.

Would also plan for a longer period out of work you must get married and then get your marriage certificate before you can apply. That could add a month or two.

If you two are in fact okay with your partner not working for several months AND you want to be together, apply inland. It's a bit of a longer waiting game, and traveling abroad can be nervy for your partner prior to attaining an OWP, but it might be the best route for what you two want.

As far as the marriage certificate -- yes you will need it, and yes it might add on a bit of time before you can submit your application. That said, it really does depend on where you get married. My partner and I tied the knot in the U.S. and received our marriage certificate that same day (we paid the fees, submitted documentation only a day or two earlier). So... decide what you want to do for a wedding, and where you want it because that choice may impact how long you two have to wait to submit the PR app.

In Canada marriage certificates can take. Few months. You can pay for expedited but usually not same day or next day.
