Hey guys,

Some Years back I was schooling in Canada but I didn’t take my academics seriously so I dropped out and I went back to To my home country, since I didn’t want to waste my parents money. Although I overstayed my Canada Visa with like 9 days or so. This was 2015.

Fast forward now and I’m about to finish University in my home country and I plan on going back to Canada. Due to my previous overstay and poor academics then. What’s the possibility of them granting me a visa now?

Please people with similar experience or expert advice is needed.

Thanks.

For a study permit, you'd need admission to a university and then sufficient funds to cover expenses and proof of ties to your home country and reasons you'd leave Canada. The program would also need to be a logical extension of your current education and should provide you skills and training that would serve you in your home country. A small overstay and abandonment of earlier study visa, if declared in a letter of explanation and explained, shouldn't weigh too heavily.

For a work visa, you'd either need to be eligible for something like an IEC (working holiday) visa, or you'd need to have an employer offering you an LMIA job.

Thank you.
So the overstay and previous poor academics won’t hamper my chances for a visa if i meet the necessary requirements.

They will have an affect. They won't be an immediate disqualification.

You need to be upfront and declare them in your application and explain why and what will be different this time.
